SUMMARY: As a Bakery Team Leader (Department Manager) you will lead a team with your creativity, passion for the product, and quality-driven leadership style. The Bakery Team Leader reports to the Store Team Leader (Store Manager) and is guided by the Regional Bakery Program Coordinator. DUTIES:
- In conjunction with the Store Leadership you will be responsible for Team Member hiring, development & training, disciplinary actions, separations, and holding your team accountable for their work.
- Responsible for profitability, expense control (packaging and labor), inventory control, buying and merchandising, regulatory compliance, and special projects as assigned
- Interview, select, train, develop and counsel Team Members in a manner that builds and sustains a high-performance team and minimizes turnover. Make hiring and termination decisions with guidance of Store Team Leader.
- Lead your team by training and mentoring.
- Complete accountability for all aspects of team operations and able to perform all duties and responsibilities of team positions.
- Select and develop Associate Team Leaders and Supervisors as potential Team Leaders.
- Achieve budget expense levels. Achieve departmental profit and store profit contribution goals.
- Manage inventory and pricing to achieve targeted gross profit margin.
- Develop and maintain creative store layout and product merchandising with advice from the Regional Bakery Team.
- Project annual sales and expenses, with guidance of Store Team Leader and prepare annual operating budget.
- You will be encouraged to run the Bakery as if it was your own business (within certain Whole Foods guidelines).
- Ensure that all Global, Regional, and Store policies & procedures (specific to the team) are being followed and executed properly.
- To lead your team with the commitment to leadership and with enthusiasm expected of someone interested in future store, regional or national leadership position.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrated two or more years of experience directing a team of five or more people.
- Ability to instruct and train new and existing Bakery Team Members.
- Strong knowledge of general Bakery procedures and baking practices.
- Previous experience as a Team Leader, Assistant Team Leader or equivalent.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to solve business-related problems.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Computer experience including Word, Excel, and systems applications.
- Available for flexible scheduling to meet the needs of the department.
Essential Job Functions: - Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders. Bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders and squat.
- Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
- Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
