Minimum Requirements: • Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering • Minimum 7 years of experience in the design and construction of engineering projects • At least 5 years of experience with electrified rail transit systems (AC and DC systems) • Knowledge of traction power AC and DC High and Low Voltage systems including relaying, rectifier, distribution and SCADA equipment • Knowledge of AREMA and IEEE standards for Traction Power design • Experience working on large transit/railroad projects with Substations, 3rd rail and/or Overhead Contact distribution systems • Strong drafting skills in AutoCAD or Microstation • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power point) • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills • Qualified applicants who are offered a position may have to pass a pre-employment substance abuse test • Valid US Driver's License Job Description: The Rail Systems group of URS is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Traction Power Engineer for immediate employment in the New York City office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career in rail systems design, traction power, specific to rail transit systems including but not limited to light rail, streetcar, and commuter rail (such as Amtrak or New Jersey transit). URS is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The incumbent can look forward to projects including design and construction of new light rail and streetcar systems across the US and Canada (Atlanta, Detroit, and Toronto currently). Typical projects also include design for local commuter rail systems such as Amtrak and New Jersey Transit.
• Meet schedule and budget constraints per project demands • Provide schedule input for design tasks and preparation of task budgets • Develop and review designs and construction drawings • Identify construction costs trending out of budget • Manage the preparation of milestone submittals • Review contractor submittals and support the installation of traction power systems components and software • Work with OCS engineers to coordinate work on all projects • Participate in project working meetings and manage meeting minute tasks • Produce construction specifications • Develop cost estimates and projections
