TNC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The LEAF Program Science Assistant will help with research, monitoring and maintaining of two environmental projects located in several boroughs of New York City. S/he will assist NYC Parks & Recreation and Columbia University with a study of the value of green roofs for biodiversity as well as help maintain green roofs atop 10 NYC Parks’ recreation centers by watering, weeding and collecting plant and other biodiversity data as needed. Additionally, for a maximum of 6 days, s/he will assist NYC Parks’ staff to monitor elevation changes in New York City marshes as they respond to sea level rise. Responsibilities include assisting and recording measurement data at established benchmark stations and helping to carry a limited amount of field gear into and out of the field. S/he will assist NYC Parks’ staff with salt marsh monitoring or assessment work within City limits as needed. TNC BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
