Job Description:  CH2M HILL Senior Geotechnical Engineer - Dams & Levees Specialist - Denver, Colorado
The challenge? Help our clients provide and sustain clean water resources around the world. As a Senior Dams & Levees Geotechnical Specialist you will be responsible for developing and implementing field exploration and laboratory testing programs, conducting geotechnical analyses, preparing geotechnical data and design reports, and developing general earthwork related specifications for civil engineering projects and with specific experience at preparing dam and tunnel-related project designs and specifications. Each day you will follow large urban design and construction projects from concept through construction with our office geotechnical engineers and work on current and upcoming design-build projects including drilled shaft and pile installation, pipe jacking and tunneling, earth retaining structures, levees, dams and seismic design. You should be a self-motivated and licensed (P.E.) Geotechnical Engineering professional with at least 15 years experience with deep foundation construction, design assignments in pipe jacking and tunneling, earth retaining structures, levees and dams and seismic design and the desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each geotechnical project.

Our Dams & Levees Geotechnical Specialist:

  • Collaborate directly with clients, business development and project teams to develop solutions for client problems that differentiate CH2M HILL in the market place.
  • Manage assigned client accounts; develop and leverage client relationships; identify, position and convert opportunities; provide interface between client representatives and CH2M HILL delivery teams .
  • Participate in field assignments that will include observation of explorations (soil and rock borings, test pits, cone penetration test ( CPT) probes, geophysical testing) and geotechnical instrumentation and monitoring
  • Inspect earth retaining structures, deep foundations (drilled shafts, piles), tunnels, foundation subgrade, shallow foundations, levees and dams.
  • Design shallow and deep foundations, earth retaining structures, ground improvement, earth embankments and cut slopes, dams and tunnels.
  • Perform earthquake hazard evaluations, including site-specific site response analysis.
  • Analyze laboratory testing results and prepare technical reports, data reports and baseline reports.
  • Prepare design drawings and specifications.
  • Drive ownership of health & safety in all aspects of project execution, office and personal environments.

Basic Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Engineering with an emphasis on Geotechnical Engineering
  • At least 18 years of geotechnical consulting experience
  • Prior experience with the geotechnical aspects of dam and tunnel design
  • Current Professional Engineer registration
  • Working knowledge of planning and executing complex geotechnical design projects from start to finish including preparation of technical reports
  • Proficient with Rocscience software packages including Settle3D and Slide
  • Experience with geotechnical specific software including GRLWEAP, LPILE, DRIVEN, SLOPE/W, SHAFT
  • Experience with PLAXIS and/or FLAC
  • Experience with FB-MultiPier
  • Expertise with MATHCAD is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering
  • 20+ years of geotechnical consulting experience
  • Excellent Marketing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal and teaching skills (proven record of mentorship)
  • Flexible and adaptable work style
