Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor of Science in Civil and /or transportation engineering related field required. Master's degree in related engineering discipline can substitute for up to two years of work experience or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience • Minimum of 4 years of experience in the traffic engineering field with local agency and Caltrans specific experience • Proficient in CADD softwares (Autocad and Microstations) for design applications on Maintenance of Traffic, Traffic control, traffic, electrical and ITS design • Knowledge of basic traffic engineering design and analysis techniques including use of the HCM 2000/2010, MUTCD 2010 and California Supplemental Traffic Manual • Expertise in traffic and electrical design including lighting and ITS element design required • Technical knowledge of Caltrans design standards, criteria, policies and procedures • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test Job Description: The Traffic Engineer/Project Engineer's responsibilities will include performing all types of traffic engineering projects and tasks including conceptual engineering studies, preliminary engineering and final design.
Long term, the candidate should be capable of evolving into a project manager capable of managing scope, schedule and budget as well as business development activities such as writing proposals, preparing scopes of work and fee estimates.
This position will perform traffic engineering duties with responsibility for assisting in preparation of plans, specifications and Estimates. Ability to assist in traffic analysis and report writing.
