Minimum Requirements: • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or appropriate discipline • Registration and designation as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Connecticut or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience as a structural engineer designing bridges and other transportation structures • Must be knowledgeable of MS Word and Excel and have a good working knowledge of common structural design and analysis software packages such as STAAD, MDX, FB Pier, Bar7, AutoCAD and Microstation • The candidate must have the ability to direct and mentor staff in the completion of their assignments. • Must be knowledgeable of design codes including AASHTO • Highly organized and ability to support multiple projects / proposals at a given time. This is a senior level position, and the candidate must have the ability to direct and mentor staff in the design of bridges and other transportation structures. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work independently and communicate effectively among various design disciplines, often located in multiple offices throughout the country. This position also requires the ability to write effectively in support of business development efforts and in support of developing technical reports.
• As Principal Structural Engineer, the candidate will be responsible for the overall successful execution of projects including technical, financial, quality and safety aspects. The successful candidate will work toward advancing his/her career at URS through development of project management skills as well as technical competencies. • The candidate will manage complex assignments and must be able to independently manage the work and the team. Typical assignments will include the preparation of design computations, plans, specifications, cost estimates and reports. • The candidate will review and approve calculations and other supporting analyses prepared by project staff. Technical oversight with regard to constructability and other construction related issues for bridges and other structures. • The candidate will participate in business development efforts, including proposal preparation. • The candidate will interact with clients such as the major transportation agencies located throughout the northeast. The candidate will also interact with multi-disciplinary project teams, often located in multiple offices within URS, and must be able to effectively work in a team setting. The candidate will interact with project engineers and managers within the New England operating region, as well as interact with business development personnel preparing proposals and other marketing materials and participate in local professional outreach activities.
