ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Geospatial Analyst will work closely with conservation and science staff on the Forests and Climate Team to analyze data using ESRI ArcGIS software (basic functions and Spatial Analyst extension) to conduct geospatial analysis involving both raster and vector data layers. This may include some or all of the following:
  • Acquiring and harmonizing multiple spatial datasets.
  • Developing analytical methods in collaboration with TNC staff, based on a specified research question.
  • Synthesizing and summarizing results in reports and presentations.
  • Maintaining a well-organized database.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field and 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience using spatial datasets and GIS software (ArcGIS and others) to create new spatial datasets.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite software and Web browsers.
  • Experience managing databases and producing reports and presentations in fluent English.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects, setting realistic deadlines and managing timeframes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2-3 years related experience, a graduate degree and 0-1 year of experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Prior field experience in forest ecology preferred.
  • Analyzing, manipulating, and interpreting data, including statistics.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s).
  • Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple sources.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in English.

ADDITIONAL JOB INFORMATION
  • The short-term position will begin in June 2013, running for a minimum of eight weeks, with the possibility of extension for a total of 12 weeks.  
  • The World Office is expected to be under renovation during some portion of this internship, so it may be necessary for the intern to work from a home office during some portion of this internship.  We will do what we can to secure an office space for the duration, but that may not be possible.  In any case, we will provide all computer hardware, software, and other office supplies as needed to conduct the internship.

SALARY INFORMATION
  • Pay will be $1000 per two-week pay period, and standard 35 hrs per pay period.
