Job Description:  Position Overview:
The Regional Competitive Pricing Coordinator develops competitive pricing strategies in partnership with our Purchasing Leadership Team.  The position assists and supports the RVP of Purchasing and the Purchasing team members in analyzing product movement and market response to pricing strategies.  This position partners with the Regional Finance Team on margin reporting, forecasting and budgeting. The position reports directly to the Regional Vice President of Purchasing and has a dotted line report to the Regional Finance Team.
 
Responsibilities & Qualifications:
  1. Pricing -Develop reporting tools, consumer surveys, and accurate data collection methods. Ensure the regions' competitiveness and maximize profit through analysis of competitors' pricing; recommend price changes to product coordinators and buyers. Act as regional point person for price match programs. Must have an interest in promoting and supporting a market-driven approach to pricing.
  2. Analytics - Use available tools or create new tools to develop pricing simulations that will assist buyers in making item and category pricing decisions. Blend margins to create an optimal balance of competitiveness and profitability. 
  3. Promotions - Review strategies and programs on a set periodic basis; reviewing promotions, promotional history and recommending future pricing promotions. 
  4. Competition - Evaluate competitive strategy and work with purchasing team to develop appropriate strategies; analyze category data and work to exploit market opportunities to adjust merchandising, pricing or purchasing tactics.
  5. Communication and Reporting - Regularly update regional leadership and our Finance Team on competitive positioning and strategies. Serve as a resource for Store Team Leaders in competitive situations; discuss and set into motion competitive tactics for minimizing the negative impact of competitive threats.
  6. New Store Openings - Collect pricing data from retailers in the operating area of the new WFM stores and recommend Store Opening Specials to buyers based upon specific conditions in the market. Monitor the market closely during opening week and make careful "last-minute" store opening price recommendations to ensure that WFM is not beaten on price on comparable items during opening week.
  7. Market Knowledge - Stay current with food, retail, and natural products trends. Read popular and trade press widely.  
  8. Coordinator Team Support - Make category and item purchasing recommendations to buyers.
  9. Training " Speak, provide presentations and train store and regional leadership on pricing strategy, value positioning and competitiveness.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 
  1. Experience analyzing, creating and implementing competitive pricing strategies for large retail operations " Experience in the field of retail grocery would be a plus.
  2. Enthusiasm for Whole Foods Market's products and a strong interest in developing expertise in all product categories.
  3. A love of all thinks analytical " A data geek
  4. Highly motivated to develop expertise in category trends and the use of data to recommend better pricing decisions.
  5. Willing to work in an evolving role that presents vast opportunities for teamwork and advancement.
  6. Experience with Microsoft office products; must have advanced proficiency in Excel and have the ability to create and run complex and dynamic pricing modeling/reporting
  7. Able to think creatively and solve problems.  Must be able to create positive outcomes for the company. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  8. Comfort with and ability to learn new reporting and database tools/systems; advanced level knowledge of SQL reporting, including Microstrategies and advanced database tools.
  9. Advanced level knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint; building comprehensive lists, sites, alert-based forms.
  10. An expertise with the Whole Foods Market promotions tool, AMS and other reporting systems like Peoplesoft, Smore, Store Ops, IRMA, Microstrategy would be a plus.
  11. Strong project management background.
  12. Solid public speaking skills; able to present ideas to diverse audiences.
  13. An interest and knowledge of food and the natural products industry.
  14. Prior experience as a director of competitive pricing or category management a plus.
  15. 3 years experience in grocery retail, with prior experience as a coordinator, associate coordinator, buyer or analyst (or equivalent) is a plus.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders. Bend and twist neck and waist, reach above and below shoulders and squat.
  • Bend and lift loads, not to exceed 50 pounds.  Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Repetitive use of hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
