Solid waste management continues to be a strong area of sustained project work and is also a growing market for CH2M HILL. Each day, you will be the face of CH2M HILL as you demonstrate superior service in the delivery of projects that exceed the needs of our clients. You will be engaged in cool and innovative projects.

CH2M HILL is looking for a dynamic individual to join the firm as an Environmental Project Manager Waste Management in one of our California offices. This position will be responsible for the delivery of Waste Management client projects, to include providing Project Planning or Engineering support, and for the performance of Client Service Manager activities through proposal efforts, business development through proposals and aggressive networking in California to grow CH2M HILL's presence, and client maintenance assignments for key waste management clients throughout the western US regional market.

You should be an effective leader and communicator with preferably 10 years of comprehensive knowledge, experience and progressive responsibility in organic waste and solid waste projects and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each waste management project. Connectivity in the western US marketplace and a background in organic waste facility planning, design, operations and/or management would be assets. This position has an emphasis on planning, design and permitting for municipal and industrial waste management facility projects encompassing multiple disciplines. This includes potentially serving as a Project Manager/Technical Consultant in all phases (Planning, Engineering/Design, Construction, & Operations) associated primarily with composting projects, anaerobic digestion, and other organic waste conversion technologies throughout North America.

Our Project Managers - Solid Waste Organics:
  • Play a lead role in building the future of our environmental practice through business development, project management, client service management, staff development and mentoring.
  • Develop waste management clients in California and the western US focusing on existing clients and opportunities
  • Self-motivated to make contacts with prospective clients and develop growth strategies.
  • Organize and direct all activities on solid waste related (planning, engineering, environmental control system design and O&M) projects to ensure project is completed in accordance with client requirements.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling, and performance
  • Lead in the application of CH2M HILL's Project Delivery System to achieve the following project delivery strategic objectives: health, safety, environmental responsibility; client expectations for quality, schedule, and budget; financial performance for project specific targets; project team and field program expectations; operational performance and business unit expectations; and quality
  • Lead various aspects of business development process including client development discussions, preparing proposals, strategic marketing initiatives, acting as the client service manager, and ability to quickly integrate with senior management team in developing marketing strategies
  • Prepare necessary elements for technical proposals (scope, schedule and budgets) and participate in project/client interviews or presentations
  • Coach junior level project managers and task managers
  • Interact with regulators and permitting agencies
Additional information: This position may have a field component. Must be able to travel to project sites as needed.


Basic Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in an engineering planning or relevant discipline.
  • Preferably a minimum of 10-15 years experience in the environmental consulting industry and/or waste management industry with emphasis on organic waste management
  • Applicants should have familiarity with commonly used composting, anaerobic digestion, waste processing and related technologies
  • Strong record in health and safety, including experience with behavior-based health & safety programs
