Minimum Requirements: Education: • Graduate from an accredited two-year technical mechanical institution or equivalent.
Requirements/Experience: • Three (3) years job-related experience. • Must be certified at NICET Level II in Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based and Special Hazards Suppression Systems. • Must have excellent communication, organization and leadership skills. • Some positions will require shift-work. • TS/SCI with Polygraph or the ability to obtain one within a year of working.
Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands: • This position will be exposed to products of fire to include heat, smoke, toxic fumes, gasses. • Works inside and outside in various weather conditions to include extreme cold and heat. • Works around non-hazardous materials/waste, lifting, stooping, crawling, bending, and carrying. • Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds on a daily basis. • Constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills. Job Description: URS Corporation is looking for a Fire Sprinkler System Technician (NICET II) to join their Program team in Salt Lake City, UT. This individual will have responsibility and oversight of facility fire suppression (wet pipe, pre-action, dry chem) systems. The Fire Alarm System Technician will be perform testing, inspection, and maintenance on fire alarm systems of all types. This position will functionally report to the Mechanical Manager. The Program consists of multi-year execution of an operations and maintenance contract for a large data center.
Job duties: • Responding to water-based system service calls and routine system maintenance calls. • Inspects fire suppression systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance. • Monitors the fire suppression system work of the technical support contractors for the purpose of ensuring that the system repairs and upgrades are satisfactorily completed and within local/State/Federal and District codes, regulations and specifications. • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair. • Provides technical service to customer Fire Safety systems including technical support during the installation and commissioning of new or expanded systems. • Performs system modifications as necessary. • Conducts testing and inspects systems. • Responds and carries out to completion any troubleshooting and repairs. • Must be able to identify code and non-conformance issues. • Makes recommendations regarding both systems installations and service contract facilities. • Reports daily on activities completed, deferred, requiring further action or material. • Maintain compliance with established departmental policies and government regulations and directives. • Interpret and make decisions in accordance with laws, regulations, directives and policies.
