Education:
• Graduate from an accredited two-year technical mechanical institution or equivalent.

Requirements/Experience:
• EPA Technician (Universal) Certification.
• Three (3) years job-related experience.
• Must be capable of operating heavy equipment.
• Must maintain a valid state driver license.
• Some positions will require shift-work.
• TS/SCI with Polygraph or the ability to obtain one within a year of working.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
• Works inside and outside in various weather conditions to include extreme cold and heat.
• Works around non-hazardous materials/waste, lifting, stooping, crawling, bending, and carrying.
• Heavy lifting up to 50 pounds on a daily basis.
• Constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills.


Job Description:

URS Corporation is looking for Mechanical Technicians to join their Program team in Salt Lake City, UT. These individuals will have responsibility and oversight of the facility Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and shall perform periodic Predictive Maintenance (PdM) and Preventive Maintenance (PM) services (e.g., Daily, Weekly, Monthly and Annual) for all HVAC systems. This position will functionally report to the Mechanical Manager. The Program consists of multi-year execution of an operations and maintenance contract for a large data center.

Job duties:
• Performs PM and PdM services on large scale cooling tower systems (e.g. Check and adjust belt tension; lubricate fan shaft bearings, motor base adjusting screw, and gear drive; Inspect general condition of the tower and check unit for unusual noise or vibration; Clean cold and hot water basins/Spray nozzles; Inspect air inlet louvers/combined inlet shields...)
• Performs PM and PdM services and supports vendor related maintenance activities for large scale water cooled centrifugal chillers (e.g. Record operating condition; Check oil and refrigerant levels; Perform vibration testing...)
• Perform PM and PdM services on building air handler units, Computer Room Air Conditioners (CRAC), Blower Coil Units, etc. (e.g. Replace Filters Quarterly; Clean the unit, coils, and condensate pump; Verify condensate pan safety switch operates freely; Coils Clean and Clear of Obstructions...)
• Performs PM and PdM services on stand-alone DX cooling systems.
• Check heavy-duty HVAC systems equipment for proper performance, inspection of systems on equipment to detect unusual wear, faults and or malfunctions.
• Diagnose problems using appropriate tools and instruments to determine extent of repair required to return system to OEM functionality.
• Make necessary adjustments and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems, using appropriate hand and power tools.
• Test and examine repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that the repairs & maintenance meets manufacturers' standards.
• Clean, lubricate and perform other periodic maintenance task for the equipment.
• Performs mechanical fabrication and assembly from sketches, drawings and other engineering documentation.
• Assists in the installation, setup and checkout of major mechanical subsystems.
• Performs complex mechanical setups and alignments.
• Works with metal, fiberglass, composites and various other materials.
• Performs layout and fabrication from engineering drawings and sketches.
• Designs and fabricates test fixtures and jigs to support production.
• Provides suggestions and expert advice for mechanical design solutions for production runs and prototypes.
• Assists with integration and assembly of complex mechanical systems.
• Performs installation of mechanical systems at customer site.
• May apply paint and/or other protective coatings and finishes to fabricated assemblies and components.
• May cut and assemble various types of metal piece parts into structures in accordance with engineering drawings and sketches.
• Inspects completed work for conformance to drawings, specifications and quality requirements.
• Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
