Job Description:  Principal Process Engineer - Bellingham, WA

The challenge? Helping ensure the world's supply of energy and chemicals. At CH2M HILL, we deliver solutions that span the entire breadth of the energy and chemicals industry. Our Principal Process Engineer position will provide you with the opportunity to work on energy and chemical projects in our Bellingham office. Each day you will be a technical expert for oil, gas and chemical projects. You should be a detail oriented professional with 20 or more years of experience in process engineering, design or operation for oil refining or gas processing. Production, pipeline, terminal and LNG experience is also beneficial.

Our Principal Process Engineer:

  • Direct, coordinate, organize and control completion of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility
  • May perform in the capacity of technical specialist or principal investigator for large or complex projects requiring technical expertise throughout CH2M HILL
  • Responsible for making decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have important impact on total design engineering activities
  • Lead a team of process engineers performing tasks on specific projects
  • Lead, train and mentor junior engineers
  • Will work under the direction of the Process Engineering Supervisor

Basic Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 20 years related process engineering experience for refineries, gas plants and chemical plants
  • Professional Engineering registration
  • Must be able to estimate and plan discipline work required to execute various aspects of a multitude of project types.
  • Participate in proposals and business development.
  • Must be cognizant of the capabilities and limitations of various computer software packages and automated engineering and design methods to effectively direct their use for diverse assignments
  • Strong written, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills are required
  • Strong client interaction skills
  • Develop vendor relationships
  • Ability to lead a team of Engineers in a multi-discipline project environment
  • Ability to and previous experience developing younger staff.
  • Willingness for occasional travel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Refinery engineering for all processes from light ends to heavy oil upgrading, treating processes, sulfur recovery and utilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, execute and lead process design work
  • New and revamp process unit design
  • Feasibility studies and economic analysis
  • Environmental compliance
  • Assessment, design and specification of distillation processes and equipment
  • Assessment, design and specification of heat transfer equipment
  • PSV & Flare System Analysis
  • Business development and proposal preparation

Degree Required

Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
