Job Description:  CH2M HILL Operations Supervisor - Pine, AZ

The Challenge? To perform a series of operations and maintenance services for our Client at the Pine Strawberry Water Improvement District.

Our Water Operations Supervisor will perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a water distribution system. This position is fully qualified to perform the most complex functions and typically holds a high-level water distribution and water treatment certification in Arizona. The position requires an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality certification - Water Distribution 3 and Water Treatment 1.

The Water Operations Supervisor shall have extensive experience with ground water wells as this is a 100% ground water system. The successful candidate will also have the skills to install, troubleshoot, and replace distribution pumps, motors, controls and gauges. The candidate shall also have advanced skills in troubleshooting and operating electrical equipment and variable frequency drives. The candidate shall also have experience with computerized maintenance management systems and pellet drop chlorinators.

The client is the Pine-Strawberry Water Improvement District (PSWID) in Pine, AZ. PSWID is in the mountains northeast of Phoenix about a 100 miles. The system includes 3,200 connections and is water production (wells - 400K gpd), distribution, meter reading, customer service and billing & collections. Staff size is nine (4 in admin and 5 in operations).
Pine is near Payson, AZ and is an ideal spot for someone who enjoys all kinds of outdoor activities --fishing, hiking, hunting, camping, ATV's, etc.

The PWSID provides water that is supplied exclusively by ground water pumped from the district's wells drawn from the Lower Verde watershed. In 2012, PSWID produced nearly 112 million gallons of water to serve its population of almost 8,000 customers through 3,200 service connections. The water is produced, stored and delivered through a complex network of 23 wells and 10 water sharing agreements; 1.294 million gallons of water in 19 storage tanks; 19 booster stations; and more than 58 miles of water mains.

Our Operations Supervisor:

• Diagnoses operating problems and directs effective correction procedures

• Prepare required reports and maintain complete recordkeeping procedures

• Analyzes recording instrument readings and laboratory test results and adjusts various plant processes accordingly

• Inspects plant to determine efficiency of operations, cleanliness, and maintenance activities

• Supervises and trains employees

• Determines remedial action in emergencies

• Prepares work schedules subject to approval of Project Manager

• Prepares reports and maintains records

• Performs employee evaluations

• Assists Project Manager in conducting ongoing safety program

• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED

• Certification at a level required by the State in which the project is located; Water Distribution Operator - Grade 3; Water Treatment Operator - Grade 1

• Possess a valid driver's license with no major infractions in past 3 years

Preferred Qualifications


• Highest level certification in the State in which the project is located

• Knowledge of the principles, methods, and tools employed in the general operation of engines, pumps, valves, motors, and related equipment; general maintenance work; safe work practices; principles of supervision and training; principles of budget preparation and expenditure control

• Knowledge of computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, data management systems and be able to operate plant PLC's and SCADA systems

Degree Required

High School or GED
