Job Description:  CH2M HILL Rail Vehicle Engineer Jobs - New York, NY
The challenge? Helping our communities stay safely on the move. As a member of the consulting team you will provide engineering support to procurement of new and overhauled rail vehicles and projects involving reliability improvement or product upgrades. Must have experience in rail vehicle fleet engineering, procurement and/or maintenance. Basic knowledge of industry standards and practices and supply industry. Good communications skills, detail oriented and ability to work independently are essential. Experience with rail vehicles and with rail vehicle systems (e.g. propulsion, HVAC, couplers, doors, brakes, trucks) is essential, experience with more than one type desirable.

Detailed Role
  • Provide technical support to a variety of assignments.
  • Role will include engineering support of procurements for both new and overhauled rail transit vehicles.
  • Assist in resolving design and system integration issues on transit vehicle projects.
  • Engineer will support both office and field based activities, including technology assessments, writing specifications, evaluating vendors, design reviews, troubleshooting and problem resolution, testing support, and failure investigations.
  • Provide Engineering support in preparation of technical specifications for functional/ sub system/ testing/ maintenance & training requirements for rail vehicle or subsystem procurements or overhauls.
  • Perform technical reviews of vehicle and subsystem design for transit and railroad fleets, analyze requirements, and prepare review comments for disposition of Contract Deliverables.
  • Perform oversight and witnessing of factory testing of vehicles and subsystems prior to approval for shipment; log discrepancies and prepare reports for status of system testing
  • Monitor field implementation and testing activities for a range of rail vehicles.
  • Support System integration of vehicle subsystems and complete vehicles from different suppliers for compatibility and functional performance
  • Assess performance and specification compliance for vehicles and subsystems.
  • Have familiarity with vehicle and subsystems from key suppliers in the market in order to perform detailed design reviews of product and system submittals

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and 2+ years of design/application/oversight experience in the transit industry on rail vehicle projects.

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of design/application/oversight experience in the transit industry on rail vehicle projects
  • BS degree required; preferably ME or EE.

Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
