ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Nature Conservancy is looking for an experienced communications practitioner to join the Eastern Region Marketing team.  The position will be based in The Nature Conservancy’s Miami office and will report to the Director of Marketing, Florida Chapter, with a dotted line to the Florida State Director.   S/he will join the Eastern Division Marketing team supporting the Florida Chapter in the development, creation and implementation of strategic marketing programs/initiatives to ensure department and organization-wide marketing goals and strategies are achieved, particularly in the South Florida/Miami market.

The ideal candidate has in-depth experience in client and account management, has strong media relations skills and experience working with international and local media in the South Florida area. 

Specific media responsibilities include:
  • Devising and implementing a solid media relations plan to target key media with a presence in the South Florida markets. 
  • Cultivating a portfolio of media contacts to help place regular stories in print, digital and broadcast outlets.
  • Providing messaging, spokesperson and crisis communication training to team members as necessary.
  • Creating regular pitches and media opportunities to boost awareness of The Nature Conservancy.
  • Developing creative ways to increase Conservancy coverage in key outlets.

In addition to media support, the manager will work closely with The Director of Marketing to help build brand awareness throughout the Florida Chapter, whether through creative public relations strategies or other means necessary.  The Marketing Manager will also help design and implement effective strategies to gain and retain members and strategically build awareness among key industry and government leaders. Specific marketing duties may include:
  • Packaging conservation work into customer-facing content packages
  • Implementing strategies to raise visibility with our membership, donors, and other key target audiences
  • Strategic outreach and communication with our supporters in South Florida
  • Event management and community outreach planning / execution

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Multimedia, Public Relations or related field and 7  years experience in one of the marketing disciplines: media relations & writing, digital media, creative & production or publications or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in client and account management.
  • Experience with written and verbal communication, negotiating agreements.
  • Experience with current technology in the marketing field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICAITONS
  • Corporate experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects and generating results.
  • Proven experience in developing strategies aimed at reaching and engaging diverse audiences in support of an organization’s mission.
  • Experience pitching and garnering earned media
  • Ability to see the big picture and to prioritize tasks and resources to achieve goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and experience creating persuasive communications on complex issues.  Includes writing for a variety of print and electronic vehicles including media materials, presentations, publications and digital channels.
  • Project management skills including use of software to communicate and manage deliverables.
  • Knowledge of design production and digital communications desired.
  • Has a network of local and regional media contacts.
  • Basic knowledge and interest in environmental news and issues.
  • Fluency in Spanish a plus.
