Our Engineering careers provide you with an opportunity to manage the development, implementation, and evaluation of complex designs with the purpose of controlling front end planning for more accurate budgets, scope and schedules of complex building and semi-industrial infrastructure improvements, upgrades, and repairs at our client's sites in Houston, TX. Each day, you will represent CH2M HILL and our client as you take responsibility for ensuring that all safe work practices are being followed by the contractors working on the client site, and will have considerable responsibility in the day to day design management of advanced and complex projects, that may also be located at industrial facilities.

You should be a self motivated professional with a minimum of 10 - 15 years of project engineering experience in semi-industrial, commercial and laboratory settings (including experience managing several concurrent projects from the planning, programming and design for major capital expenditure programs; semi-industrial, instrumentation, controls, mechanical and electrical infrastructure projects and mission critical facilities projects representing the owner). The Project Engineering Manager has advanced technical competence and the ability to manage the design, understand the clients design engineering practices and effectively move several complex projects forward, such as existing pressure equipment units, boilers, chillers, effluent treatment plants, natural gas systems and sub-stations. You should also have a desire to grow personally, as well as professionally.

You should have proven ability to exude leadership during regular site visits/conversations on site, design and construction progress meetings, apply and manage all Design Management related processes and systems that impact the project as required, including the description and implementation of sustainable solutions.

Our Project Engineering Managers:

  • Have engineering design experience to include managing projects related to complex facilities & infrastructure. They have a solid knowledge of instrumentation, controls, critical facility and building infrastructure MEP systems, are able to lead design-build teams, and perform facility/equipment scope development and assessments.
  • Plans and directs all specialized engineers working on specific projects and familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices and procedures, and oversee engineering solutions from consultants to ensure compliance with the project plan.
  • Rely on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. They lead and direct the work of other engineer's to accomplish the same goal. Creativity is expected for this role.
  • Work very closely and have the ability to work with the client's building engineers and other technical personnel. They have experience in the development design documents, and understand city and local code codes.
  • Demonstrated expertise in front end planning.
  • Have the ability to read/interpret plans and specifications for any project.
  • Able to identify project risks at each stage of the project, and document solutions, mediation and mitigation plans.
  • Work directly with the Project Developer on the development of projects and a project program; assess options and possible engineering solutions
  • Will learn the client design engineering practices and understand how it applies to projects and industry standard.
  • Communicate effectively with the client technical team on their requirements and how solutions meet or exceed those specifications.
  • Challenge the engineering consultants on their options, solutions and deliverables. Ensure that engineering scope of work for each project is understood by all parties and responsible for its delivery.
    Are able to manage projects through construction if project manager staff workload peaks

Basic Qualifications

- BS or MS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field with ability to create preliminary project sketches for infrastructure related projects.

- Minimum of 10 to 15 years project engineering management experience as an owner's representative, including an in-depth understanding of electrical and mechanical applications for a critical facility, and dealing with facility industrial infrastructure projects in commercial and/or semi-industrial settings.

- Proficiency in Autocad.

Critical thinking and problem solving skills, planning & organizing skills, decision making, time management, social perceptiveness, communication, and influencing skills. Must also be able to perform effective leadership presentations to clients, negotiate, delegate, adapt to a team environment and tolerate stress. Strong written and oral expression/comprehension (clear verbal communication/speech clarity) as well as active listening is a must.Degree Required Bachelors or 4 Year Degree
