The Wheatstone LNG Project is a multi-train Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and domestic gas (DomGas) plant near Onslow on the Pilbara Coast. Bechtel is honored to participate in the engineering, procurement, construction, and start-up of this LNG plant. Role Overview The Heavy Haul Superintendent will provide oversight of all Heavy Hauling operations on the jobsite. The successful candidate will report to the Project Equipment Superintendent and in conjunction with the Rigging Supervisor and the Certified Rigging Engineer (CRE) will monitor and manage the Heavy Haul Subcontractor off-loading barges and transporting modules, prefabricated structures, and heavy vessels to various foundations or staging areas on the jobsite. This position may be required to travel to the Houston office to assist with the selection of the Heavy Haul Subcontractor and may also spend some time in the Perth project office reviewing the Heavy Haul Subcontractor submittals before transferring to the jobsite for execution of the work. Specific duties will include the following: - Ensures transporting activities are correctly planned and executed, including installation of ro-ro ramps to barges, off-loading modules from barges and staging SPMTS to receive loads from self-loading ships conveyances..
- Provides technical guidance and support to the civil superintendents to assure heavy haul roads and routes are sufficient for transportation of modules weighing up to 5000 tonnes.
- Coordinates with other superintendents and Subcontractors to assure access is established for road grades and turning radiuses of transport vehicles.
- Identifies amount of assistance required from Engineering for review of Heavy Haul Subcontractor detailed design of complex staging beams and frames; preparing conceptual designs for the items and engaging Engineering in detailed design efforts.
- Provides assistance as required to support Heavy haul Subcontractor developing work packaging and work face plans.
- Identifies requirements for soil improvements and special foundations for major heavy haul operations, liaising with Geotechnical Engineering as required in the design of load-spreading details, ground improvements or special foundations.
- Identifies any holds required to the installation sequence of steelwork or foundations to facilitate transport or lifting operations.
- Provides guidance to Engineering to determine maximum practical weights or dimensions for modules or assemblies to assist in their handling during transportation or lifting to ensure that neither the capacity of the transportation equipment nor the allowable space in the transportation corridor is exceeded.
- Coordinates with the site traffic control personnel and site security to assure heavy haul routes are scheduled and site traffic flow is directed accordingly.
- Coordinates with the CRE in establishing and maintaining a list of Design-Critical lifting and transportation activities requiring detailed collaboration with the Civil/Structural/Architectural and Geotechnical engineering disciplines.
- Monitors general project transportation operations to ensure all loading activities are performed in accordance with approved loading plans and procedures and that Standard Work Process Procedures (SWPPs) are being complied with. Participates in safety walk downs.
- Reviews subcontractor transportation procedures. Reviews and "approves to proceed" subcontractor plans.
- Ensures that the subcontractor requirements are met including certification and documentation of all rigging hardware
Basic Qualifications - Tertiary qualifications in an engineering discipline or other relevant field will be highly regarded.
- Significant experience in planning, directing, and supervising transportation operations including "Critical Risk" operations in the field.
- Experience managing major Sub Contractors.
- Experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing or power generating station construction
- Prior Bechtel rigging and heavy equipment transport experience will be highly regarded.
- Australian rigging and heavy equipment transport experience is essential.
Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.)
