Project Description:

The Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) Project is a coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project on Curtis Island, near Gladstone, Queensland. Gladstone is located approximately 450 kilometers north of Brisbane on the east coast of Australia. Australia Pacific LNG has Australia's largest CSG reserves position and is well placed to enable the creation of a world-class, long-term industry in Queensland, Australia. The Project consists of the development of the LNG plant which will have a processing capacity of up to 9 million tons per annum (Mtpa).

Bechtel is performing the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) on the project. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2016 with a workforce primarily on a camp status, fly-in/fly-out basis. The project will be performed using a Bechtel Direct Hire workforce with select subcontract support.

Unless otherwise indicated, applicants for construction positions should have heavy industrial (Direct Hire or Construction Management) construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken and the requirements identified below.

Role Overview

  1. The Field Engineer Piping will report to the Area Field Engineer and Lead Field Engineer Piping.
  2. Troubleshoot engineering design, resolves issues with engineering and/or fabricator.
  3. Track and report installed commodities for piping.
  4. Ensure piping, valves and bulk items are stored and maintained in accordance with manufacturer's requirements
  5. Ensures that construction requirements are made known to the project team in a timely manner and obtains construction responses to the needs of other members of the project team.
  6. Performs duties with considerable latitude, exercising independent judgment and utilizing construction knowledge and experience in resolution of questions and problems which may arise.
  7. Maintains strict adherence to welding program and project requirements to achieve quality standards.
  8. Responsible for test pack preparation, pre-test walk downs, and system walk downs

Basic Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Responsible for the piping activities, such as the application of drawings, specifications, and subcontracts.
  2. Initiates requisitions for field purchases.
  3. Assists construction engineers and superintendents in:
    1. Interpreting design drawings.
    2. Monitoring piping installation and planning for delivery of construction materials and equipment.
    3. Assuring that proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection.
  4. Reviews specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals and technical data.
  5. Ensures all work is done in conformance to drawings, specifications, cost and schedule.
  6. Coordinates with engineering design on constructability issues.
  7. Ensures that vendors' bids for material and equipment are in conformance to specifications.
  8. Works with various functions to ensure the project achieves corporate goals set for environmental, safety & health, quality, cost, and schedule.
  9. Perform Quantity and Quality inspections and document findings as required per project procedures

Job Knowledge
  1. Minimum seven years of experience as a Field Engineer Piping, preferably with internal systems and procedures experience
  2. Extensive experience in both underground and above ground pipe installation, testing (hydrostatic and pneumatic), turnover and system commissioning.
  3. Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to pipe engineering and construction, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
  4. Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and Teamworks database applications.
  5. Knowledge of the contractor/ subcontractor's responsibilities contained in subcontract documents
  6. Familiarity with refrigeration piping systems in LNG facilities would be preferable

Note: Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task.
