CH2M HILL Project Management Careers - New Orleans, LA

The challenge? Help deliver safe, reliable and extremely competitive project and space/move management services that focus on enhancing and delivering the life-cycle and performance output of our clients' assets. Our Project Management careers provide you with an opportunity to manage cost, scope and schedule of building and tenant improvements, minor upgrades, and repairs at our client's sites in New Orleans, LA. Each day, you will represent CH2M HILL and our client as you take responsibility for ensuring that all safe work practices are being followed by the contractors working on the client site, and will have considerable responsibility in the day to day delivery of exciting projects, that may also be located at small offsite facilities. You will also work on space planning and coordination of small, medium and large moves, providing contract space planning and moving services for Shell Real Estate at One Shell Square and other sites in and around the New Orleans area.

You should be a self motivated professional with a minimum of 3-5 years of project/construction management experience and 5-7 years of space planning experience in a facilities department. Entry level technical competence is required for the management of small renovation or space planning projects, but the ability to manage the design, upgrade or installation of such projects will be key. These are part of the basic minimum requirements. You should also have a desire to grow personally, as well as professionally.

You should have proven ability to exude leadership during regular site visits/conversations on site, design and construction progress meetings, apply and manage all PM/CM related processes and systems that impact the project as required and lead peer reviews with sufficient knowledge, options and solutions that serve as unique initiatives that can enhance project delivery, coordinate project closeout, financial and functional aspects, that eventually lead to effective project transitions to the client maintenance teams. You should be willing to learn from management and peers, yet be able to deliver independently from a remote location.

Our Project Managers/Space & Move Planners:

  • Have entry level engineering, architecture and/or construction or facilities management experience.
  • Have demonstrated abilities in front end planning, budgeting, scheduling, technical reviews and report writing used to quantify project status, costs, and relevant information used to minimize delays throughout the life cycle of the project. Written reports must be detailed and written at an advanced level. They are able to easily manage and document projects, and produce multiple professional reports at one time.
  • Are project management professionals, capable of succeeding in cost controls, budgeting, scoping, planning, estimating, procurement, scheduling, change management, tracking, contractor dispute resolution, and leadership of other PMs. They are able to work in a team environment and possess strong interpersonal skills.
  • Have the ability to read/interpret plans and specifications for any project.
  • Will have experience in advising clients on how to plan their approach to Program and Project management for all projects in accordance with client processes and sound industry practice/governance; diagnose causes and identify remedial actions where a project is materially off-schedule as it relates to time and /or cost.
  • Demonstrate skills in quickly organizing and evaluating information and in proactively finding solutions for design and construction projects without client guidance.
  • Assist in procurement duties including proposals, quote/cost analysis, document verification, contractor pre-qualification, award meetings, etc.
  • Be able to manage occasional projects like tenant & exterior building improvements, furniture re-configurations for multiple floors ranging from 15,000 to 40,000 SF per floor in 400,000 to 1,000,000 SF buildings.
  • Maintain working knowledge of specific requirements imposed by governmental agencies and CH2M HILL policies and procedures, including a working knowledge of ADA requirements, Sustainable Strategies and MEP Codes.
  • Able to identify project risks at each stage of the project, and document solutions, mediation and mitigation plans.

• Provides space-planning services for clients to assist in the proper placement of offices, rooms, systems furniture & employees within established guidelines. Produces drawings for client review and feedback, and involves project management staff as appropriate for construction services.

• Produces and maintains AutoCAD & PDF drawings & floor plans for all Shell buildings, including employee names & departmental charge codes.

• Updates & maintains electronic building & employee records in the Planon system.

• Coordinates the planning, scheduling and execution of employee moves of all sizes on a daily basis.

• Coordinates with Shell focal point employees to ensure that all move-related information is properly reflected on Move Spreadsheets. Conducts independent spot-checks of work areas affected by move planning to ensure that current locations and office availability at destination locations is accurately reflected.

• Communicates with all departments and contract companies in scheduling move activities (i.e. movers, IT, voice communications & mail room contacts). Distributes move information package to focal contacts for further distribution to employees. Arranges for delivery of moving packing materials.

• Schedules & conducts move meetings for larger moves of 25+ employees to plan for the detailed requirements of the move. Develops agenda for meeting & solicits attendees & necessary information.

• Inspects the work areas affected by move plans to ensure that current locations and office availability at destination locations are accurately reflected in Move Spreadsheets.

• Provides post-move follow up at move destination locations to offer assistance with post-move problems of all kinds.

• Coordinates move activities with building management & security in order to ensure that all necessary building functions needed (i.e. elevators, loading dock, security officers, A/C, etc.) are available throughout the move.

• Performs building audits at least quarterly to verify that employee locations, furniture layout and room configurations are correctly notated on floor plans and in the Planon system.

• Maintains a professional business relationship with all client contacts.

• Requests assistance in providing space planning and/or project management support as necessary in situations where existing facilities will not satisfy client needs.

• Produces reports of various move-related statistics and graphs for presentation to client.

• Oversee the move contractor at One Shell Square and Norco, including the management of move budgets and coordination/scheduling of moves and other related tasks. Review of invoices from the move contractor will also be needed to ensure compliance with the tasks performed.

• Performs other duties as required to assist in Department objectives.

Basic Qualifications

- Associates, BS or MS in Architecture, Civil, Structural, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or related field.

- Minimum of 3-5 years project/construction management experience as an owner's representative, and/or 5-7 years of space planning experience in a facilities management environment.

- Inventory and database management experience.

- Minimum of one year working with AUTOCAD.
