CH2M HILL Senior Project Controls Specialist- Energy & Chemicals, Houston, TX

Our Senior Project Control Specialist will provide you with the opportunity to work on exciting, large scale oil and gas projects or chemical facilities. Each day, you will be an important team member responsible for supporting a project team in the execution of all project controls processes and systems on mid-level projects. You will ensure that all project control activities such as project administration, change management, project estimating, cost management and schedule management are executed in a timely fashion and in accordance with all company standards and contractual requirements. You should be a self motivated, detail oriented professional with a minimum 15 years planning/scheduling or cost engineering experience in a construction and engineering environment, a BS in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or related field, and prior experience working with Primavera P6 software.

Our Senior Project Control Specialist:

  • Take the lead in the development and maintenance of any periodic (daily, weekly, monthly) status reports to keep management and/or owner informed on the project progress. These reports may include labor productivity, schedule status, financial analysis, Cost Performance Reports (CPR) and earned value curves reports on either direct or indirect construction activities that are a part of the work.
  • Maintain all subsidiary reports such as personnel staffing and release schedules, equipment schedules, etc to facilitate good cost projections (EAC).
  • Are responsible for the development of scope, schedule, budget and estimate to complete data for assigned tasks under the direction of a lead project controls engineer.
  • Take the lead in the creation of Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and development of schedules and budget data (including resource loading) for those WBS elements.
  • Analyze unit rates to the extent that the estimate to complete unit rates is well understood and defendable.
  • Analyze schedule progress and performance and identify developing problem areas.
  • Assemble and compile schedule and cost data and input them into the project control database and provide output to the project team.
  • Analyze critical path and restraints to determine the effect of changes to the schedule; recommend work-arounds.
  • Advise management of risks that may affect project profit, costs, schedules and client relations.
  • Support the Project Management team in maintaining timely and effective change management processes, procedures and systems.
  • Prepare CH2M HILL standard earned value-based reports, including schedule updates, Cost Performance Reports (CPR) and earned value curves.
  • Ensure that all commitments and invoices are accurately reported into the cost system.
  • Participate in the development of the Project Completion Report including the evaluation of all subcontractors and major vendors.
  • Incorporate field schedules in the Performance Measurement Baseline (PMB).

Additional Information: Relocation assistance is not provided. CH2M HILL will not sponsor an employment visa (e.g., H-1B visa, etc) to fill this position.

Basic Qualifications

  • BS in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or related field, or equivalent additional 4 years of experience in project controls
  • Minimum 15 years planning/scheduling or cost engineering experience in a construction and engineering environment using Primavera
  • Must be willing to travel to project locations
  • Proficient with project management software such as Primavera P6, Contract Manager, Access, Microsoft Project, spreadsheet and word processing software such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to demonstrate required knowledge of project control principles; understand the principles and concepts of cost engineering as it relates to budgeting, monitoring and tracking actual costs, change orders and forecasting; have advanced skills in planning and scheduling utilizing the critical path method , and be able to set up basic cost reports required by the project manager
  • Must understand the various contract types, i.e. cost plus, T&M, FFP and provide interpretation of the prime contract requirements
  • Must have hands-on experience and be able to set up basic design and construction schedules and possess the knowledge of calculating physical percent complete and calculating overall percent complete for the project.
