Job Description:  We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer IV to join our growing Bridge and Tunnel Structures Inspection Group at the AECOM Providence, Rhode Island office as an Inspection Team Leader. As an Inspection Team Leader you will be expected to prepare estimates for each inspection, make all coordination arrangements, coordinate personnel, lead inspection teams in field observations, and lead a coordinated effort in preparing reports.  You will also be responsible for finding and reporting issues requiring immediate attention and following through with constant feedback to our clients.  Beyond this, you are expected to have a thorough understanding of design, construction and maintenance of structures to be able to participate in design and load rating activities.
Location: Providence, RI or Boston, MA

Essential Duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Perform inspections
  • Determine critical issues and properly address them
  • Lead team members and tailor their inspection skills to form a cohesive inspection team
  • Get involved with rehabilitation design calculations or details, plans and/or specifications as needed
  • Bridge load rating calculations
  • Prepare cost and man-hour estimates
  • Prepare reports, opinions and recommendations for the clients concerning the structures
  • Serve as quality control reviewer
  • Ensure conformance with standards, established engineering practices, applicable codes and technical adequacy of design and construction
  • Keep abreast of new methods and developments
  • Stay current in codes and technologies
  • Implement and follow AECOM Quality Management System procedures
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer
  • 10+ years related experience
  • NHI 2-week bridge inspection training and current refresher training (within 4 years)
  • Additional NHI trainings, including fracture critical inspection training, are desirable
  • Current certification to access MBTA and AMTRAK properties, as well as OSHA 10 hour training, are desirable
  • Extensive experience as a bridge/tunnel inspector, qualified to be a team leader
  • Active member of professional and/or technical society desirable
  • Knowledge of PONTIS and the RIDOT Bridge Inspection Program desirable

Competent in all conventional aspects of the subject matter of the functional area of the assignments, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devises new approaches to problems encountered. Requires sufficient professional experience to assure competence as a fully trained worker. Independently performs most assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects. Works independently with general guidance except for complex and unusual situations. Develops technical solutions to complex problems, which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity. Works is performed with minimal direction. Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. May oversee the work of less experienced engineers.
