Job Description:  CH2M HILL Systems Assurance Engineer - New York, NY

The Senior / Systems Assurance Engineer provides advice to a range of client projects covering the full range of system assurance activities (safety, reliability, availability and maintainability). This may include performance of analyses, review of submittals, inspections or system demonstrations. The Systems Assurance Engineer works within a project team to deliver high quality consulting support to transit clients.

Systems Assurance Expertise:
  • Candidate must be familiar with all aspects of System Assurance: Safety, Reliability, Availability and Maintainability.
  • Candidate should be capable of performing and leading System Assurance tasks for a range of rail systems including train control, communications, and vehicles.
  • Candidate should be able to lead the development of System Assurance objectives on a large project and be able to identify key issues, potential solutions by using a consistent, rigorous methodology.
  • Candidate should be capable of applying project experience on large systems to a range of rail system projects including Advanced Signaling/ Technology project work, rolling stock procurements, communications projects and implementation of complex integrated systems.
  • Candidate should have specific experience in key elements of System Safety Assurance including knowledge of industry best practices, industry standards and specific analytical techniques, such as Hazard Identification & Analysis, Failure Modes Effects Analysis and Software System Safety Assurance.
  • Experience in an independent safety assessor or regulatory role will be desirable.
  • Candidate must be able to operate at multiple levels, with the ability to provide project support to work with stakeholders to establish and implement a comprehensive System Assurance Program.
  • Candidate must also demonstrate expert practitioner abilities to conduct detailed reviews of complex analyses and processes.
  • Candidate should be able to move between high level overview / objectives of tasks and be capable of focusing on details of functional area.
  • Candidate should be capable of interacting on a daily basis with multiple levels of clients from the most senior management to direct labor as well as addressing the interface with contractors and consultants.
  • Candidate should have clear understanding / or capability of appreciating User requirement context for transit projects - including Operations, Maintenance, Training, Testing and Commissioning.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Engineering.
  • 10 + Years Experience with engineering projects.
  • A minimum of 10 years specific system safety experience on a range of transit or other multi-functional projects.
  • Experience with safety documentation preparation and review, detailed safety studies (FTA, FMEA, Hazard Identification, etc), quantified risk assessment, safety audits and safety management system oversight.
  • Experience with Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM) documentation review and preparation, development and management of FRACAS, detailed RAM studies or analysis (prediction, FMECA, FTA, reliability growth, etc).
  • Additional skills in fire protection (modeling and systems safety analysis) will be an advantage.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills and communications skills, both written and oral

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineering License / Certified Safety
  • Professional / Safety or RAM Accreditation. Project Management accreditation.
