The challenge? Provide environmental scientific support for our rapidly growing siting, licensing, and permitting practice. Our Environmental Staff Scientist career path will give you the opportunity to play a role in all stages of siting and permitting projects in the industrial and energy sectors, including oil &gas pipelines, renewable energy, electric transmission lines and power plant facilities. This is an opportunity for a qualified individual to participate on field teams supporting projects related to the development and operation of energy projects located throughout the Midwest and Eastern United States. In this entry level position, you will serve as a key team member working with scientists, engineers, project managers, and other project staff. You should be a self-motivated professional with a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, or similar environmental discipline and have a desire to build a career in environmental consulting services.

Our Environmental Staff Scientists :
  • Travel to client/project locations in the Midwest and Eastern US to perform biological field surveys, with an emphasis on wetlands delineation, and data collection and have significant interaction with both clients and the regulatory community.
  • Assist with regulatory documentation development including FERC documents, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, siting reports, and environmental permit applications and preparing NEPA documents.
  • Gain experience in environmental permitting of energy facilities and/or pipelines including: NEPA (and state equivalents), USACE 404 wetland permitting, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) filings, Clean Water Act, environmental permitting.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Environmental Science or Engineering, Biology, Ecology, or similar environmental discipline
  • 4-9 years of experience in the siting and licensing field in the Eastern United States, including experience conducting and leading field work, including wetland delineations using the U.S Army Corps of Engineers Midwest, Northeast, and Northcentral Regional Supplements
  • Professional Wetland Society (PWS) or PWS In-Training (PWSIT) certification is desired.
  • Working knowledge of the Ohio Rapid Assessment Method for Wetlands (ORAM), Headwater Habitat Evaluation Index (HHEI) and Qualitative Habitat Assessment Index (QHEI).
  • Expertise in Clean Water Act permitting in Ohio and Pennsylvania, including USACE Section 404/Section 10 permits, Ohio EPA Water Quality Certification, Pennsylvania Chapter 102 permits, and Chapter 105 general permits
  • Familiarity with the Endangered Species Act and experience in coordinating with Ohio and Pennsylvania agencies, as well as the US Fish and Wildlife Service, regarding rare, threatened, and endangered species.
  • Experience using GPS technology, leading/conducting wetland delineation surveys, protected species surveys, and habitat assessments. Strong field skills and familiarity with major environmental regulations are important.
  • Ability to lead a wetland delineation field team is required.
  • A demonstrated technical competence and project experience in natural resource fields applicable to oil and gas pipelines, conventional or renewable energy generation, ortransmission siting and licensing or environmental permitting projects. Environmental consulting experience with an understanding of FERC regulated projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel up to 50%
