ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Philanthropy Manager, Principal Gifts Events will provide leadership for the events function within our Worldwide Office Philanthropy Division.  S/he will work towards meeting the strategic priorities of the program and complete the day-to-day work necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the program.  The Philanthropy Manager, Principal Gifts Events, designs and orchestrates an events-driven engagement program for Principal Gifts donors and prospects.  S/he works closely with the Principal Gifts department and the Office of the President to assess and prioritize current event programming, establish criteria for the use of event resources, define best practices and ensure impeccable implementation.  S/he reports to the Director of Planning and Operations and acts as a consultant to Principal Gift fundraisers, providing strategy, tools and tactics for impactful events.  S/he will participate in operational improvement efforts to ensure that all events have a clear purpose, defined strategy and consistently applied best practices.   S/he works collaboratively with staff across the organization to identify and capitalize upon opportunities for advancing relationships with key donors. 

The Philanthropy Manager's essential functions include:
  • Development, implementation and oversight of a comprehensive strategic events engagement program with a multi-year scope to align to and support organizational campaign plans.
  • Leveraging existing processes and best practices, to advance foundations and individuals at the Principal Gifts level to support conservation goals around the world.
  • Ensuring that a centralized events strategy reflects the positioning, platform and voice of the Principal Gifts team's fundraising objectives and is embedded within overarching campaign goals. 
  • Designing and executing customized, high-touch events that help to advance complex fundraising strategies in support of the President, Executive Leadership and the Global Board of Directors.
  • Motivating and coordinating the efforts of a multi-disciplinary team of staff and volunteers to develop effective and impactful engagement opportunities.
  • Offering insights to the networks of our most influential donors and prospects, understanding how those networks intersect and how best to leverage. 
  • Acting as an internal project manager for events that support a robust principal gift strategy at the donor and team portfolio levels, and acts as a representative for the interests of Principal Gifts when working on events managed outside of our team.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience designing and implementing projects.
  • Experience in supervising staff, interns and/or volunteers.
  • Experience with database management, spreadsheet software and MS Office.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in current trends of specified field.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving trends in major gifts giving, events and capital campaigns. 
  • Ability to meet deadlines, organize time and manage diverse activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Foster an environment of creativity and professional growth, to design job-related, interactive exercises and use existing technology to achieve desired results. 
  • Must be independent, responsible, dependable, self-motivated with the ability to participate effectively in a team environment and work well with a variety of others.
  • Proficient in manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data.
  • Strong analytical, planning and problem solving skills.
  • Strong organization skills, proofreading, accuracy, attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
