CH2M HILL Central Utility Plant Technician - Houston, Texas

The challenge? Help deliver safe, reliable and extremely competitive integrated facilities management services that focus on enhancing the life-cycle and performance output of our clients' assets. The Central Utilities Plant (CUP) Technician is responsible for all aspects of Operations and Maintenance within the realm of the Central Utilities Plant. Because the CUP is a 24x7 operation, the technician is responsible for all aspects of plant operations, maintenance of equipment, systems, & infrastructure, water sampling and reporting, and good housekeeping practices.

Our Central Utility Plant Operator:

  • Operates and maintains the Central Utility Plant Equipment & Systems e.g., air compressors, boilers & associated waste systems, chillers, water towers, piping infrastructure & water treatment systems.
  • Performs periodical maintenance (PM) on plant air compressors, boilers, chillers and associated system components, as outlined in the job plan procedures.
  • Maintains CUP building facilities equipment i.e HVAC, Lighting, ect as assigned.
  • Performs water sampling and testing with documented results.
  • Utilizes System BMS (SCADA) to monitor, maintain and operate all CUP Equipment and systems as required reporting all equipment and system deficiencies to the supervisor that may have an adverse effect on systems operations.
  • Utilizes the plant CMMS system to generate work orders, PM reporting and record time as required.
  • Maintains & updates Weekly/Monthly Equipment & Operations Status List & delivers to Supervisor as assigned.
  • Works with vendors and suppliers to perform PMs on equipment and systems that will require tear down for inspections, major repairs and general maintenance procedures.
  • Performs quality control inspections on all CUP equipment and systems to ensure adherence to contract specifications, industry standards & EH&S requirements, regulatory and permitting requirements.
  • Ensures adherence to company and client EHS requirements.
  • Works closely with Site CH2M HILL HSEQ Manager & Client Coordinator to confirm self performed work and contractor task plans are submitted & reviewed by Site HSEQ in a timely manner for all project related work.
  • Responds in a professional and timely manner to management and internal customer inquiries relating to the facility operations and maintenance related issues.
  • Notify critical resources (HSEQ, O&M Supervisor/manager & Client), of start dates for all equipment and system projects.
  • Monitors and ensures good housekeeping throughout the facility internal and exterior at all times.
  • Assist in performing Quality & HSEQ Audits.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to investigate problems, formulates solutions, and communicates those solutions to internal customers and management.

  • Demonstrated skills and abilities as applied to Facilities Technicians, contractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures.
  • Knowledge of facilities maintenance, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to work cooperatively across organizational lines in a dynamic and demanding work environment.
  • Knowledge of uniform building codes, fire codes, ADA, OSHA preferred.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5 years of related utility technician experience
  • Driver's license
  • HS diploma
  • Must have Second Grade Stationary Engineer License - City of Houston

Degree Required

High School or GED

Certifications Required

Second Grade Stationary Engineer License - City of Houston
