ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides strategic coordination of Philanthropy functions for the Mexico and Northern Central America (MNCA) Conservation Program. 
  • Supports Director of Philanthropy, Conservation Program Director and other Senior Leadership in the identification, cultivation and solicitation of donors and development of their prospect portfolios in both the US and Mexico/Northern Central America.
  • Assists in the creation and implementation of strategies for the ongoing cultivation of donors capable of major and/or deferred gifts.
  • Conducts an agreed upon number of meetings with donors and prospects to determine capacity for major gifts.  (Individually or in support of senior philanthropy/conservation leadership.)
  • Provides ongoing opportunities for contact with past and current donors. 
  • Moves major gift 'suspects' to prospect pool for management by senior fundraising staff and integration into the Moves Management process. 
  • In conjunction with the MNCA Communication Specialist, works on a variety of activities including providing program information to prospects and drafting routine correspondence and acknowledgments.
  • Uses the fundraising management system (FMS) to update donor information, produce reports, perform analysis, and track and cultivate donors. 
  • Assists in cultivating and soliciting donors through meetings, trips, events, etc.
  • Supports Director of Philanthropy and Conservation Program Director in the development and  management of the Mexico Advisory Board and other high level volunteers (to include regular communications as well as logistical support for events and other activities)

May assist with asking for and closing major gifts.  Assists and closes gifts of $1,000 - $10,000.  May have an annual fundraising target of $250,000.

 

 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications or related field and minimum 2 years' related work experience or equivalent combination. 
  • Experience building relationships with donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff.
  • Experience working with fundraising principles and practices. 
  • Experience, coursework, or other training in current trends in charitable giving in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts or planned giving.
  • Experience in managing, and tracking, multiple prospects and donors.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • 2 - 4 years' related work experience or equivalent combination. 
  • Major gifts or other direct fundraising experience preferred.
  • Experience using effective interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with donors, volunteers, and all levels of staff.
  • Well-developed written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of current trends in charitable giving, particularly in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts and planned giving. Working knowledge or willingness and ability to learn the basics of charitable gift planning.
  • Ability to use existing technology to achieve desired results. 
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Experience using written and oral communication, negotiating and organizational skills.
