CH2M HILL Energy & Chemicals Alaska Region Business Manager - Anchorage, AK

Our Alaska Region Business Manager job provides you with the opportunity to serve as the senior financial officer of the Company for the Business Group in the Alaska Region. You will operate as an equal and trusted member of the Regional Business Group Leadership Team, providing financial and business input and perspective to enhance management strategic and operational decisions in order to achieve business goals.

You will be intimately familiar with the operation of the businesses in the Region (professional services, construction and operations & maintenance), with the economic-commercial environment of the Region, and will keep executive and senior Business Group management informed on the issues facing the business while anticipating and preventing "surprises". The Business Manager also has a fiduciary responsibility to the Company to create and enhance value for the firm. The Regional Business Manager reports directly to the Regional Business Group Manager (RBGM) and the Business Group Finance Director (FD). General and Project Accounting oversight is provided by the Global Enterprise Services Accounting Directors.

You should be a self-motivated professional with a Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or related business field with 12+ years of financial management experience in positions of progressively higher leadership levels, with organizations having diverse business lines and of similar size operations. Experience in Oil and Gas industry strongly preferred.


Our Alaska Region Business Manager is responsible for:

  • Financial Analysis and Reporting
    • Monthly financial package that includes numerical data and written analysis that effectively communicates financial results to Regional BG Leadership Team
    • Monthly close - review significant project EACs and associated financial results and approve post close entries and reserve positions
    • Lead Annual Business Plan and Forecast development for the Region
    • Overhead cost development and regular monitoring
    • Benchmarking and analytics for business lines, project portfolios and overall BG performance
    • GM/TCIC/EBBT monthly estimates (with variance explanation) and status tracking
    • Confirm timely updating of EACs in Oracle
    • Contract review from a tax/currency perspective
    • Joint Venture financials and accounting
  • Business & Commercial Management
    • Participate in strategic decision making by Regional BG Leadership Team
    • Support PMs on project review reports and actively participate in Project Reviews to identify risk and financial concerns
    • EAC/WIP/AR follow-up to ensure no surprises
    • Capital Plan and PR approvals
    • Support Strategic Plan development for the Region
    • Significant project pursuit pricing/tax/cash flow/FX risk support
    • Major project commercial/financial oversight
    • Project Management financial training
    • Special projects as determined by RBGM or BG FD
    • Provide guidance on teaming and/or joint ventures by the BG in the Region

  • Leadership & Communication
    • Management and Direction of the regional business managers and analysts, provide input and guidance to achieve the individual business and regional business goals.
    • Regularly assess the competency of the regional business management team and engage to improve the individual and overall performance and capability of the team.
    • Close interaction with business operations and management staff to gauge and understand operational issues - provide guidance where necessary
    • Build and maintain close relationships with corporate staff (HR, legal, tax, treasury, reporting, accounting, etc.)
    • Business partner for RBGM and regional leadership team

    Secondary Responsibilities

    • Complete financial queries from COR Team
    • Provide financial info for various reports issued by BG Management
    • Provide assistance in cross Business Group activities as needed

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor's Degree in finance, accounting or related business field.
    • Twelve (12) years or more of financial management experience in positions of progressively higher leadership levels, with organizations having diverse business lines and of similar size operations.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous experience working in the Oil & Gas industry
    • Master's degree in finance, accounting, or related business field.

    Non-technical Competencies

    • Integrity - Is ethical in the conduct of business both inside and outside the organization. Promotes the well being of the company, customers and the public
