Description:
Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Hazardous Material Technician to perform a variety of activities relating to the identification, collection, transportation, processing, packaging, and preparing of hazardous materials and hazardous wastes for storage and disposal. These activities will be performed in accordance with the regulatory requirements for Tesla Motors' Manufacturing and Development operations. The ideal candidate works well on both self-initiated projects and those driven by concerns and issues reported by co-workers. He/She takes pride in his/her analytical abilities, organization skills and attention to detail and appreciates an environment where superior work is encouraged, noticed and rewarded.
Roles and Responsibilities:
• Maintain an inventory of hazardous materials and document consumption rate

• Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets for all hazardous materials used in work areas

• Inspect and maintain all hazardous material and waste storage areas

• Generate and maintain all required documentation and reports for all hazardous material/hazardous waste in strict accordance with applicable federal and California regulations

• Respond to Hazardous Material/Hazardous Waste spills and releases

• Oversee the collection, packaging, labeling, testing, storing, transporting and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in accordance with applicable federal and California regulations

• Maintain hazardous waste Satellite Accumulation Point data

• Initiate, promote and coordinate recycling and waste reduction initiatives



Skills and Experience:

• Working knowledge of OSHA regulations regarding hazardous materials

• Experience with emergency preparedness and response

• Superior interpersonal skills

• Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines

• Well organized with meticulous attention to detail

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Mastery of Word, Excel and PowerPoint


Qualifications:
• Associates or higher degree in Environmental Sciences preferred, but not mandatory

• 3 - 5+ years of experience in waste management activities

• Successful completion of formal school(s) or course(s) of instruction that provide fundamental information on the safe and proper management of hazardous materials/waste in accordance with federal and California regulations. Such courses include but are not limited to: o Hazardous Waste Generator RCRA Training

o Hazardous Waste Shipper DOT Training

o Hazard Communication OSHA Training

o HAZWOPER Training

o Forklift Operation
