TNC POSITION SUMMARY The Nature Conservancy is looking for an entrepreneurial, forward-thinking, creative individual, with track record on the water resources sector to serve as the Director of Water Security Regional Unit for Latin America. She/he will lead the organization's efforts in Latin America to use nature to secure clean water for major cities, agriculture and energy sectors. This Unit leads the Water Funds program work in Latin America and the agenda with the Latin American Conservation Council on Water Security, among other prominent initiatives. This unit requires that its leader be an active participant in high-level discussions on the subject of water security and natures solutions and be willing and able to engage governments, corporations, lending institutions and other non-profit groups at the highest levels to promote sustainable solutions. The leader of this unit will need to have a strong track record in raising funds for building and maintaining a stand-alone unit. A good pre-existing knowledge of the Latin American policy arena, the water business and of engineering and lending processes for water projects is desired. S/hewill be a senior manager in the organization and a member of the Latin American Management Team and must be able to work effectively with others in a decentralized and geographically dispersed organization. The person chosen for this position will be based in any of the locations in Latin America in which TNC has a main office and will oversee a regional team of 5-8 staff. Additionally this Unit will coordinate with the Global Water Security Team and with the staff working on water funds program in the Conservancy's 5 conservation programs in Latin America. S/he should be an individual with high ethical standards and a track record of getting things done. S/he is accountable for the Unit's success and for maintaining strict adherence to organizational values. This position reports to the Director of Conservation Programs for Latin America. TNC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Latin American Director for Water Security will lead, inform and implement these regional strategies in order to make transformational changes towards water security. His/her work will enhance and catalyze the work already happening at the Conservation Program level. He/she will work with Conservation Programs and other regional and global experts to transform the goal above into a specific, actionable business plan and then lead the Latin America Region toward this vision. He/she will coordinate with the Conservancy's Global Priorities groups to ensure that our work is focused and adequately leveraged and represented in international policy and donor events. He/she will play a leading role in engaging donor support both for the Water Security Unit itself and for Conservation Programs' work on this topic. He/she will serve as a key contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, corporations, foundations and the academic community in coordination with The Conservancy's structure. He/she negotiates or informs the negotiation of complex and innovative solutions with government agencies, major lending institutions, engineering companies, landowners and communities related to conservation in the water sector. He/she will work with key Conservancy staff to coordinate, integrate and promote the Conservancy's many water projects, helping the organization leverage its field successes into new policy and corporate engagement tools that dramatically increase the scale of our influence and result in large-scale and measurable conservation results.
