ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Rote Island Project Coordinator will lead TNC's project implementation (Developing coastal and marine spatial plan to inform investment plan and sustainable use of marine resources that benefits people and biodiversity in Rote-Ndao district of East Nusa Tenggara Province) in Rote Island as part of the Savu Sea Marine National Park.

S/he will develop workplan, budget, implementation strategy, monitoring /tracking as well as timely writing up, production and submission of both programmatic and financial reports to the donor.  In close collaboration with the Area-Based Conservation Manager and the Lesser Sunda Sustainable Fisheries Initiative Manager, s/he will focus on supporting effective implementation of project activities and ensuring that all project deliverables are produced in high quality and timely manner.  The main project deliverables include development of: coastal zoning plan, alternative livelihood (including sustainable fisheries, seaweed, etc.) and sustainable coastal tourism.                   

S/he will maintain contact/good relationship with the local governments, local stakeholders and other relevant partners to support success of program implementation on the ground.  S/he will develop collaborations with local community groups to implement this project on the ground. S/he will establish and strengthen local community groups that are potential for long-term partners in conservation in Rote Island.

The Rote Island Project Coordinator will be based in Kupang field office and will report to Savu Sea Project Leader who is based in Kupang.
 
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BA/BS, law or business degree and 5 years' experience in natural resource management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience negotiating complex agreements
  • Supervisory skills and experience
  • Experience communicating with the public and/or media both in writing and verbally
  • Experience using common software applications such as Word, Excel, Web browsers, etc.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to make sound decisions on legal, financial, conservation and reporting issues               
  • Knowledge of land management conservation practice and conservation science
  • Explaining conservation practices to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability and willingness to apply science to decision-making and guide activities
  • Ability to communicate and work closely with scientists
  • Working with media and influential officials, especially governmental, to improve Conservancy programs' outcomes
  • Familiarity with principles of land acquisition
  • Knowledge of ecological land management principles
  • Knowledge of current trends and practices in conservation, land management, and natural resource preservation
  • Experience in training and curriculum design.
  • Completing tasks independently with respect to timeline(s)
  • Managing time and diverse activities under deadlines while delivering quality results
  • Excellent communication skills via written, spoken and graphical means in English
