The Student Conservation Association (SCA), America’s #1 conservation service organization seeks a Program Director for our SCA Massachusetts corps program based in Hawley, MA. Start date September 2.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Interview, hire, and train program staff.
- Provide direct supervision, guidance and professional development opportunities to 2-3 full-time and 1 part-time and seasonal staff members.
- Provide supervision, guidance and professional development opportunities to 26 corps members including 4 individual placement interns serving throughout the state.
- Conduct member interviews and approve all recommendations for hire for the program.
- Design and implement member orientation and trainings in conjunction with program staff; ensure all members receive training necessary to perform service activities as outlined in the program objectives.
- Ensure the safety of all staff and members.
- Lead the process to develop, write, and submit AmeriCorps Continuation and Renewal Grant Applications.
- Responsible for Partnership Development for the program. Develop and maintain strong program partnerships to create sustainable revenue streams. Develop fee-for-service and values-based partnerships with federal, state, local agencies, as well as non-profit organizations and the corporate community to support the work of SCA Massachusetts.
- Coordinate, with Marketing department, all public relations and media coverage for SCA Massachusetts, including distribution of press releases, newsletters and other media outreach.
- Prepare and manage annual operating budget of around $500,000.
- Write SCA Quarterly and Final Reports as well as AmeriCorps Progress Reports.
- Continue to develop and produce measurement tools and evaluative reports that meet the needs of all internal and external constituents.
- Fulfill all contractual and compliance obligations with federal, state and local partners, including member and program reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in Environmental Education, Natural Resources or related field
- Four years of supervisory experience in an outdoor/conservation service program
- Two plus years of grant writing and partnership development experience
- Community organizing skills and strong capacity to work in a team
- Proven supervisory and programmatic development skills
- Ability to communicate with a wide range of populations
- Public speaking and or training experience with small and large groups
- Attention to detail and outstanding time-management skills a must
- Experience living and working in a residential setting
- Experience leading in the outdoors
- Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office
- Wilderness First Responder/ CPR
- Valid driver’s license and MVR that meets SCA’s standards
- Criminal background check that meets SCA standards
