Minimum Requirements: • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience on infrastructure and facilities projects, with particular emphasis on inspection and design of waterfront, coastal and maritime structures. • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a commercial diver, including underwater inspections of wharves, piers, docks, bulkheads, piles and bridges. • Registered Professional Engineer in the State of California (Civil or Structural). • FHWA Bridge Inspector certificate is preferable. • Experience as a design structural engineer working with concrete, steel, masonry and wood with an understanding of the corresponding design Codes and Specifications. • Experience in lead design roles for waterfront projects including piers, wharves, bulkheads and seawalls. • Knowledge of CADD software such as AutoCAD and/or Microstation. • This position requires completion of the URS Project Management Certification program within 6 months of hire. This certification program is a series of learning modules and is available on-line through the URS Learning Management System at no financial cost to the employee. • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test. Job Description: The Infrastructure & Environment Division of URS is actively seeking a highly talented Civil or Structural Engineer with commercial diving qualifications and experience for immediate employment in the Ports & Maritime Department of the Long Beach office. The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate relevant experience in facilities and waterfront inspection (particularly underwater) and engineering design. Incumbent Responsibilities: • Work with URS design teams in order to deliver well-coordinated design documents and innovative cost savings approaches to design projects . • Provide design and constructability oversight and assure successful project delivery. • Assist in feasibility studies of alternative design approaches in collaboration with the project team. • Collaborate with project geotechnical, civil and structural engineers to provide innovative and cost effective design solutions. • Provide leadership for the dive teams and in-house engineering staff, and prepare, manage, lead and perform underwater inspections of waterfront structures. • Accountable for project planning and design management to meet project budgets and schedules. • Prepare and review appropriate, organized, and thorough design calculations. • Prepare and review project reports documenting underwater inspection results, proposed repair methodologies, design drawings and specifications, and project cost estimates. • Adhere to the URS Quality Assurance process.
