The assignment is for a 10 month field assignment in Batam Island, Indonesia.

Project Description:

The Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) Project is a coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project on Curtis Island, near Gladstone, Queensland. Gladstone is located approximately 450 kilometers north of Brisbane on the east coast of Australia. Australia Pacific LNG has Australia's largest CSG reserves position and is well placed to enable the creation of a world-class, long-term industry in Queensland, Australia. The Project consists of the development of the LNG plant which will have a processing capacity of up to 9 million tons per annum (Mtpa).

Bechtel is performing the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) on the project. Portions of this work will Modularized. The Modularization assembly will be completed on Batam Island, Indonesia. Batam Island is located one (1) hour (by ferry) south of Singapore. The project is scheduled for completion in 2014. The project will be performed using a Bechtel Direct Hire workforce with select subcontract support.

This position is in support of the Inlet Air Chiller (IAC). The scope is :
  • 2 Inlet Air Chiller Packages per LNG Train with 2 trains being assembled at this time.
  • Each Package has 10 skids (Air Coolers not moved to Batam) (40 total skids)
  • 10 skids have combined weight of 400 tons (1600 total tons for all 4 IAC packages)
  • Material will begin to arrive in Batam in August 2013
  • A separate Construction Team is being mobilization starting in July 2013. The IAC construction team will be independent of current module yard assembly team, with the exception of certain support disciplines.
  • Planned assembly start in September 2013

Role Overview:

The Field Engineer Mechanicalwill be responsible for the execution of a variety of field engineering work activities including, but not limited to:
  • Provide technical assistance to the Superintendents and crafts.
  • Troubleshoot engineering design; resolve issues with engineering and/or fabricator.
  • Track and report installed commodities for mechanical equipment.
  • Prepare reports and forecasts for the mechanical discipline for quantity tracking.
  • Perform inspections and documentation of all mechanical work in progress on a continuing basis, and completes the final P&ID checks prior to shipment of module.
  • Work with procurement and equipment suppliers to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications
  • Prepare field material requisitions for temporary facilities mechanical equipment and some permanent plant materials
  • Work with Procurement's expediting team to ensure the delivery of vendor equipment and materials to support the module yard schedule
  • Initiate field change documentation and non-conformance reports as required.
  • Ensure mechanical equipment is stored and maintained in accordance with manufacturer's requirements
  • Establishes and maintains the requirements and tracking system for the execution of preventative maintenance program.

Basic Qualifications/Skills
  • Experience in construction and technical inspection in areas of installation and testing of LNG plant equipment
  • An Engineering degree is preferred but may be waived if the candidate has suitable technical working experience
  • Must be familiar with ASME code and other relevant industry codes and standards
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAP) standards including InfoWorks, TEAMWorks, BPS, EQMS and other automation tools which are used on Bechtel projects

Work includes field inspections and the physical ability to conduct field inspections which require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress). Must be able to use appropriate standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. harness, life vest, lift buckets, etc.)
