This is a Welding Field Engineer position that is based in Batam Island, Indonesia and is a 10 month assignment.
The Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) Project is a coal seam gas (CSG) to liquefied natural gas (LNG) development project on Curtis Island , near Gladstone , Queensland . Gladstone is located approximately 450 kilometers north of Brisbane on the east coast of Australia . Australia Pacific LNG has Australia 's largest CSG reserves position and is well placed to enable the creation of a world-class, long-term industry in Queensland , Australia . The Project consists of the development of the LNG plant which will have a processing capacity of up to 9 million tons per annum (Mtpa).

Bechtel is performing the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) on the project. The project is scheduled for completion in late 2016 with a workforce primarily on a camp status, fly-in/fly-out basis. The project will be performed using a Bechtel Direct Hire workforce with select subcontract support.

Unless otherwise indicated, applicants for construction positions should have heavy industrial (Direct Hire or Construction Management) construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken and the requirements identified below.

Role Overview
  • Assigned to the APLNG Construction Project Team and serves as a link between Construction and other members of the project.
  • Ensures that construction requirements are made known to the project team in a timely manner and obtains construction responses to the needs of other members of the project team.
  • Performs the duties of direct staff assistant to the Project Field Engineer and functions as the liaison between office entities and field construction for welding matters.
  • Performs duties with considerable latitude, exercising independent judgment and utilizing construction knowledge and experience in resolution of questions and problems which may arise.
  • Maintains strict adherence to welding program and project requirements to achieve quality standards.

Basic Qualifications
  • Must be a current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or certified to a program which meets or exceeds the requirements of ASNT-SNT-TC-1A Level II
  • Responsible for welding activities, such as the application of drawings, specifications, and subcontracts.
  • Directs preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment. Initiates requisitions for field purchases.
  • Assists construction engineers and superintendents in:
Interpreting design drawings.
Monitoring equipment installation and planning for delivery of construction materials and equipment.
Assuring that proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection.
  • Reviews specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals and technical data.
  • Administers assigned subcontracts to ensure contract remains up to date in areas such as drawings, specifications to ensure compliance to code and project specifications.
  • Coordinates with engineering design on constructability issues.
  • Ensures that vendors' bids for material and equipment are in conformance to specifications.
  • Works with various functions to ensure the project achieves corporate goals set for environmental, safety & health, quality, cost, and schedule.

Job Knowledge
  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Welding Field Engineer.
  • Extensive experience in welding operations in heavy industrial construction
  • Extensive experience in welder qualification and welding program development, and operation
  • Thorough knowledge of construction activities as they relate to pipe engineering and construction, cost and scheduling, and contract administration.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, database applications and the Teamworks welding module.
