Minimum Requirements: • Minimum Bachelor's degree in environmental, civil, chemical, or related engineering field • Minimum two years of relevant experience • Knowledge of applicable health and safety requirements and environmental concerns • Specialized experience in performing a variety of environmental compliance and permitting work for industrial facilities, with an emphasis on industrial wastewater treatment is needed • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs, including Word, Excel, and MS Project • Effective time-management, written communication skills, analytical, and interpersonal skills • Articulate with professional presence, with solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills • Individuals with Master's or PhD degree in related engineering discipline with no experience may enter at this level • Or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
Physical Demands and Working Conditions • Must be physically fit, able to lift 50 lbs., and be able to work long days in the field supporting environmental sampling work under sometimes adverse weather conditions • May require the ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, confined-space entry, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 lbs • May require the ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions • Requires completing training for Hazwoper OSHA 40 hr. certification • Requires enrollment in the medical monitoring program requiring initial and annual physicals, and initial and random drug screens • Requires a valid driver's license with a good driving record and the ability to travel and drive regularly, often long distances • Qualified applicants who are offered a position must pass a pre-employment substance abuse test Job Description: Description includes engineering calculations and compliance reporting/permitting, and other environmental sampling activities. Position will have cross training to work with other departments on field assignments.
This discipline is responsible for designing, planning and performing engineering duties in the prevention, control and remediation of environmental health hazards utilizing various engineering disciplines. Work may include waste treatment, site remediation or pollution control technology. Plans, designs, and oversees construction and maintenance of structures and facilities, such as remediation systems, water and sewage systems, and waste disposal units to solve environmental problems.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: • Determines sources and methods of controlling pollutants in air, water and soil, utilizing knowledge of agriculture, chemistry, meteorology, engineering principles and applied technologies • Inspects industrial and municipal facilities and programs to evaluate operational effectiveness and verify compliance with environmental regulations • Prepares, reviews, and updates environmental investigation and recommendation reports • Obtains and maintain plans, permits and standard operating procedures • Advises clients of procedures to follow in cleaning up contaminated sites • Provides technical-level support for environmental remediation and litigation projects, including remediation system design and determination of regulatory applicability • Monitors progress of environmental improvement programs • Collaborates with environmental scientists, planners, hazardous waste technicians and other specialists, and experts in law and business to address environmental problems • Performs technical research and utilizes computers in developing solutions to engineering problems • Formulates plans, designs, cost estimates and specifications • Develops familiarity with regulations governing the implementation and operations of related systems EOE M/F/D/V
