ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Cartographer will work 21-hours per week to produce maps, edit spatial data, and perform basic analyses for the Conservancy's Colorado Field Office in Boulder, Colorado.  This person will work closely with various staff and especially the Land Protection team to deliver maps under strict deadlines.  Other technical work such as data digitizing will also be performed.  This position includes the following functions:
  • Produces maps from templates and creates original print-quality maps using ESRI GIS products.
  • Creates, edits, and populates spatial data in geodatabases.
  • Organizes and updates maps and map archives.
  • Provides occasional technical support and assists non-GIS staff when necessary.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • 1 year related experience.  BA/BS or Associates degree in related field.
  • Experience producing presentation and/or print quality maps in ArcMap involving use of the Maplex labeling engine and the Cartography toolset.
  • Experience editing shapefiles and geodatabase feature classes in ArcGIS.
  • Experience with the Public Lands Survey System (PLSS) dataset and property legal descriptions.
  • Experience using a GPS unit for data collection and importing those data into an ArcMap project.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge and experience using the following ArcMap tools:
  • Ability to manage and prioritize tasks from multiple sources under strict deadlines.
  • A strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • COGO Tools to create parcel boundaries from legal descriptions. 
  • Georeferencing Tools for digitizing scanned maps.
  • Topology Tools for checking and fixing feature geometry/topology.
  • Experience building web map applications or authoring ArcGIS Mobile Projects.
  • Working knowledge and experience using ArcGIS to perform basic spatial analyses involving both vector and raster data (e.g. Zonal Statistics, Tabulate Area, etc.)
  • Performing administrative duties emphasizing detail-oriented and numerical tasks including data entry.
  • Producing tables and charts in Excel and manipulating tabular data (such as unit conversions).
  • Experience plotting large format maps and troubleshooting related technical issues.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken and graphical means in English.
