Overview
Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is a multidisciplinary research institution engaged in strategic science on behalf of national security. LANL enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction, and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health, and global security concerns.

Located in northern New Mexico, Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is responsible for monitoring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile and conducting research into new defense programs. It is a center for research in a wide range of scientific disciplines, including space exploration, geophysics, renewable energy, supercomputing, medicine and nanotechnology.

The mission of the Audit Group, as part of the Ethics and Audit Office, is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services designed to add value and improve operations at Los Alamos National Laboratory ("the Laboratory"). The Audit Group includes the internal audit, subcontract audit (post-award), and external audit liaison functions. The Audit Group helps the Laboratory accomplish its objectives as the premier national security science laboratory by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.

Detailed Description
This position will be filled at either the Auditor 2 or 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Auditor 2 ($52,300 - $83,100)
The Auditor 2 will conduct internal audits, advisory services, consultations, and investigation support addressing Laboratory financial, performance, information systems, and subcontract audits to evaluate the internal control structure; evaluate theefficiency and effectiveness of operations (processes); determine the extent of compliance with applicable Contract requirements, policies, procedures, Department of Energy (DOE) orders and directives, federal acquisition regulations, and government cost accounting standards; and assess the Laboratory's management (governance) issues. In addition, this position will examine records to ensure proper recording of transactions and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, agreements, policies, and contractual requirements; analyze data collected, and document evidence and supporting documentation. The Auditor 2 will develop formal written reports to communicate results to management and make recommendations as appropriate; and work with management to develop corrective actions and target dates to address identified business and operational challenges.

Auditor 3 ($62,700 - $102,200)
In addition to the duties outlined above, the Auditor 3 will work throughout the audit stages (planning, execution, completion and reporting), without considerable direction from management. The Auditor 3 will provide technical leadership on their audits, directing other audit team members on the appropriate techniques and documentation requirements. The Auditor 3 must be able to troubleshoot complex problems encountered during the audit and provide innovative solutions to getting the assignments done, and write up issues and recommendations in the audit reports in a manner that is easily understood by the intended audience.

Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Proven experience performing audits in accordance with The Institute of Internal Auditors Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing.
  • Advanced experience evaluating internal controls and testing internal controls design and operating effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting the results of internal audit transaction and controls testing in the audit workpapers.
  • Experience performing audit projects within budgeted hours and assigned due dates.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Undergraduate Degree in a relevant field such as accounting, business administration, management information systems or similar. Demonstrated experience working in an auditing environment.

Additional Job Requirements for Auditor 3:
  • Extensive experience in planning, executing and reporting phases of the audit process.
  • Expert technical knowledge in identifying control gaps and weaknesses in the business cycles.
  • Successful experience managing multiple audit projects at one time, with a demonstrated ability to complete all projects on time.
  • Proficient in developing high quality deliverables, including final work papers, issue documentation, and report preparation.
  • Proven ability to accomplish work independently, efficiently and effectively without considerable direction.

Additional Details
Clearance:Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances.See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
