One position for a first or second year engineering student exists in our Philadelphia office within the Transit/Railroad group as an Engineering Assistant dedicated to the Norfolk Southern Railway Company (NS) Utility Occupancy Program. This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn the basics of railroad engineering and rail transportation systems. The student will be given increased responsibilities within the NS Program as their experience and willingness to learn dictate. Qualifications: Enthusiastic individuals eager to face challenges, assume responsibility for their effort and take pride in a job well-done are best qualified to meet the demands of the position. Students are expected to apply their technical training to develop solutions, be willing to work in a group and learn new skills. Students must be able to adjust to short-term assignments. Description of Work: AECOM provides administrative and engineering services to NS for all proposed utility facility construction (water/sewer/natural gas/telecommunication/power) within NS's 21,000 miles of right of way. The services include review of proposed plans for compliance with NS requirements, mapping proposed facilities within the NS property system and preparation of Real Estate agreements. Although occasional field trips and surveys are performed, the position is primarily an office position. Basic Minimum Requirements: Candidates should have competency with word processing and spreadsheet computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite. Must have good communication skills and be dependable.
