Job Description:  AECOM is seeking a talented Interior Designer with a strong sense of creativity, initiative and innovative ideas for a position in our Roanoke, Virginia studio.  We are seeking a strong communicator with good presentation skills and comfortable in front of clients, with a positive and collaborative work style that is able to lead, work independently, as well as work within a team environment to achieve project objectives.  The candidate must have excellent time management skills, must be detail oriented and focused, work well under pressure, and prioritize multiple project deliverables while maintaining a collaborative team environment.  Thorough knowledge of the design process from concept, through its evolution into design documentation and contract administration is required.  AECOM is seeking a senior designer with extensive experience in government, institutional and commercial interiors projects including design and space planning for complex federal and defense projects.  International experience would be a plus.

Responsibilities:


  • Develops and maintains an understanding of building codes and construction regulations
  • Develops design solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity and exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment
  • Work is performed collaboratively with minimal direction, may oversee the work of less experienced designers
  • Performs interior architecture and design to prepare layouts, sketches and space plans required to convey design intent
  • Prepares calculations and diagrams, and assists in development of space programs and project planning criteria to meet client's needs
  • Prepares required working drawings including plans, details and schedules using Revit and other related design software in collaboration with project team
  • Research and selection of project finishes, materials, furnishings and equipment, prepares project specifications, and leads the preparation of presentation boards and manuals
  • Prepares project reports, design narratives, and written design studies
  • Communicates with other disciplines to ensure project documents are completely coordinated
  • Ensures compliance with industry standards and company policies regarding quality control procedures

Qualifications:


  • Generally has minimum of 8 years of professional experience practicing commercial interior design with an architectural firm designing buildings and producing contract documents
  • Specialized expertise in design and space planning of office environments with a minimum of 5 years of experience in government, institutional or commercial interiors projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Interior Design from a CIDA accredited program, or equivalent
  • NCIDQ Certification required, Certified Interior Designer in the Commonwealth of Virginia preferred
  • LEED accreditation, or desire to obtain it, would be beneficial
  • Extensive knowledge of the design process, including space planning, FF&E, furniture systems and specifications, millwork design, color and materials
  • Demonstrate sound presentation skills and ability to communicate ideas visually and verbally as required for meeting and working with clients
  • Demonstrate evidence of report writing skills
  • Proficient in Industry software: Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office required
  • Flexibility to travel within the United States and Internationally
