Job Description:  Knowledge of California prehistoric and historic archaeology required; previous Los Angeles experience preferred. The candidate should be able to direct field investigations/report preparation for moderate-sized projects with minimal technical guidance and oversight. Must have working knowledge of CEQA, NEPA and Section 106.  Previous SHPO and agency consultation experience preferred.  Project management (cost, schedule, and technical performance) experience in a consulting environment is strongly preferred. Applicants should possess demonstrated experience in archaeological survey, testing, excavation, and construction monitoring, and the ability to apply technical, legal and cultural knowledge and planning principles to complex archaeological projects. Should possess a strong working knowledge of the methods, theories, laws and ethics of archaeology; archaeological resource management principles, methods, and techniques; and have the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Applicant should have the ability to work independently as well as to supervise field crews. Ability to work with a variety of colleagues, clients, and agencies desired.
Must be computer literate (MS Word, Excel) and be comfortable using GIS/GPS equipment in the field. Experience required with cultural resource work compliant with CEQA, NEPA, Section 106, and California OHP Guidelines, as well as other relevant state and local regulations and guidelines. Candidate must be prepared for periodic field efforts that require time away from home.
Candidate must meet the Secretary of Interior Professional Qualifications Standards for archaeology with a minimum of 5 years' experience in Cultural Resources Management.
