Job Description:  AECOM desires to significantly expand its water resources business in Northern California. Key clients include USACOE, Bureau of Reclamation, FEMA, California DWR, irrigation districts and flood control agencies. In this capacity, the initiative leader provides strategic oversight and direction of the water resources market segment.
As a strategic leader for both the region and the water resources market segment, the successful candidate will have a dual reporting role to both the North American Director of Water Resources and the Water Business Line Manager for the West Region. Technical staff and project managers will have an indirect relationship to the Initiative Leader with District Staff providing direct oversight of staff.



Duties Include:

  • Provide the water resource vision for AECOM in Northern California
  • Lead business development activities in the Water Resources market
  • Identify market opportunities and develop a strategic approach to increase market share
  • Identify and recruit key hires and AECOM transfers to support the initiative
  • Work across Business lines (Water, B&P, Environment, Energy, Transportation) to optimize deployment of resources
  • Monitor project opportunities from identification to selection
  • Manage pursuits of large projects
  • Serve as Capture Manager on select pursuits
  • Integrate innovation into our client solutions
  • Provide Quality Assurance on selected/strategic projects
  • Provide oversight to technical specialists
  • Effectively communicate with the public and with clients' technical staff, management and governing boards
  • Effectively work with the North American Market Segment leadership team to ensure resources throughout the market segment are being utilized on projects and pursuits
  • Effectively work with the leadership team in the Northern California District and the West Region to:

    • Coordinate go/no-go activities for all pursuits including project pricing
    • Obtain resources for projects and pursuits
  • Monitor overall performance of water resource projects
  • Direct technical analysis and designs within candidate's areas of specialization
  • Organize and direct the specialty activities of sub consultants
  • Direct the development of scopes and fees in coordination with District management
Experience and Capabilities:




  • 20 years of experience of progressively increasing responsibility as a planning or design professional on water resource projects
  • Through past performance and client relationship development, his/her joining AECOM will have an immediate and significant impact in further improving the AECOM brand in water resources in Northern California
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate and direct development of large pursuits and projects with complex features
  • Proven track record in positioning for and securing new business and large projects with multiple agencies
  • Previous successful experience on projects and/or pursuits with the Sacramento and San Francisco Districts of the Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, California DWR, other federal, state and local agencies, and/or non-federal waters supply agencies in the Northern California area
  • Ability to work with senior level management of Clients
  • Identifies future trends/requirements and initiates action
  • Communicates and translates complex technical/specialist issues/proposals to business audiences and secure buy-in
  • Helps build specialist reputation of the organization within the external industry base and thereby grows the business
  • Develops staff through coaching and mentoring
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • P.E. licensure preferred, but not required
  • U.S. Citizenship required
