Bechtel is seeking a Lead Network/Application Performance Engineer to join our team in Reston VA. The Lead Performance Engineer will ensure that the capacity and performance of the enterprise network meets business needs by analyzing and reporting on trending data to identify threshold violations, degradation, prolonged spikes, or other key network performance metrics. The Lead Performance Engineer also analyzes networked applications at the protocol level to assess their performance and how they impact the infrastructure.

Skills and Expertise:

Packet and Traffic analysis using tools such as OPNET IT Guru, SPLUNK, Wireshark
Network fundamentals (Cisco IOS, TCP/IP, OSI model), Windows Networking
Applications and Network Architecture

The primary tasks include:

Design and direct testing and measurement activities to ensure application and network performance is maintained
Apply good organization and problem-solving skills
Apply knowledge in performance monitoring and planning methodologies
Apply specific expertise in one or more tools (e.g., eHealth, NetQoS,OpNet, Observer/Gigamon, HTTPWatch, and WireShark)
Apply performance tuning experience as it relates to I/O, network/hardware, SQL, and Java specific processes
Assist in creating and updating infrastructure and application architectures, by employing infrastructure and application optimization techniques
Provide infrastructure performance assessment including complete analysis of perceived performance problems and be able to quantify results
Apply knowledge of LAN/WAN technologies, TCP/IP, and network protocols
Apply knowledgeable of Service Management/ITIL best practices

Basic Qualifications (Level 1):

9+ years in networking and data center operations and or performance management
3+ years leading a technical team responsible for server or network operations
Bachelors degree or advanced degree in Computer Science, Technical or Engineering

Basic Qualifications (Level 2):

13+ years in networking and data center operations and or performance management
5+ years leading a technical team responsible for server or network operations
Bachelors degree or advanced degree in Computer Science, Technical or Engineering

Additional Qualifications:

Cisco CCNA Certification
MCSE
CISSP
Juniper Certification
Security + Certification
