Job Description:  General Summary



AECOM seeks two Student Interns to support the USAID Haiti Health Infrastructure Program in our program office in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The office in Port-au-Prince is currently staffed by four full-time expatriates including two construction/program managers, a design manager who is a Registered Architect and an Operations Manager.  



AECOM has an immediate need for two student interns with an interest in construction management or engineering/design management to augment our staff in Haiti.  This internship opportunity will last one semester or semester + summer with the possibility of return depending on the student's interest, availability, and coursework.  



Tasks of the job will include construction inspection and oversight, review of field conditions at existing facilities with recommendations for remedy of substandard conditions, and basic design support.  The intern might also be asked to visit the national testing laboratory and observe material testing methods and equipment or investigate material costs for a variety of items.



Our Client is the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and through them, the Government of Haiti.  This is a five-year contract to rehabilitate, reconstruct and build new facilities to support Haiti's public health system.   



AECOM is designing and providing construction management consultant (CMC) services for a broad range of health facilities around Haiti.  Examples projects include renovations to rural health clinics, new construction for a medical university in Port-au-Prince and construction of new hospitals and medical warehouses outside Port-au-Prince.





Qualifications

•     Education Requirements: Currently enrolled in an accredited Architecture, Engineering or Building Construction program.

•     Personal Requirements:

o    Interest in international work;

o    Strong interpersonal skills, cross cultural skills, and ability to work independently and in a team;

o    Proficient with basic computer applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint);

•     Specialized Knowledge/Skills:  

o    Proficiency in French language is preferred but not required, Haitian creole proficiency also preferred but not required.
