Transmission and Distribution (T&D) - Manager, Construction Safety and Health
The AECOM Energy business line addresses the complete spectrum of energy challenges, including power generation, transmission and distribution, clean and renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon management, hydropower and dams, thermal, geothermal, solar, and wind.
We are a world leader for providing environmental and engineering services for the power transmission and distribution (T&D) community. Our clients are both network owners, such as transmission and distribution utilities, and network users, such as generators, electricity consumers and rail network operators. With more than 80 years of service, we work with more than 300 power utilities in over 50 countries.
Our T&D project work includes the following:
• Transmission and distribution analysis and network planning
• Power generation systems analysis
• Substation and transmission line design
• Power system protection
• Communications
• SCADA, metering and energy management systems
• Load dispatch centers
• High voltage underground cables
• Transmission and substation sitting and land planning
• Sub-soil investigation and earthing systems
• System efficiency and loss reduction programs
We are currently seeking candidates in the Piscataway, NJ area for a Manager, Construction Safety and Health for a T&D project office, with a relevant 4 year degree, construction safety industry training and certifications, and a minimum of fifteen (15) years experience, with at least five (5) of these years being spent in a supervisory or responsible charge role dealing with construction site safety and health issues for a major company performing T&D project or construction work.
The Manager, Construction Safety and Health will be part of the Program Management team responsible for overseeing the design, procurement, and construction of a major transmission system upgrade for a major utility Client; and will ensure the successful execution of a safety and health program for the work being executed initially within a project office on a part-time basis, and then full-time at several site locations as the work progresses to the construction and equipment installation phases.  The position requires preparation and review of project Health & Safety Plans (HASPs), and other safety documentation typical for major construction programs.
Reporting to the Program Manager (dotted line to the Construction Manager), this position will interact with representatives of the Client, contractors, suppliers, design consultants, property owners, regulatory authorities, and other involved entities.  The Manager, Construction Safety and Health will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety documents are in full compliance and conformance with established industry, internal Company, and Client requirements. A thorough understanding of procedures and company policies is required. The position requires performing duties with a great deal of autonomy, and exhibiting sound independent judgment in executing assigned tasks.
Experience and demonstrated knowledge in successfully performing these functions over several years is highly desired, and specific familiarity with industry principles, practices, and regulations is required.  Some knowledge of major electrical utility industry construction means and methods is desired.  The position requires solid written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Additional working familiarity with standard computer programs, such as MS Outlook, Word, and Excel is necessary.
