Summary of Role: SunPower is seeking a Global Commodity Manager for Electrical BOS (Balance of System) to manage and be accountable for the Total Cost of Ownership of the BOS Electrical components (NRE/Tooling/Cost/Quality/Inventory) with strategic focus in supporting introduction of new products from our Austin, TX office. The Global Commodity Manager for Electrical BOS reports to the Director of Strategic Sourcing BOS and will be responsible for (other deliverables, size of team reporting to this open role, relationship with primary stakeholders, or other particularly attractive or informative information).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Work closely with Engineering, Product Marketing, Quality and Support teams to develop mutually acceptable solutions with industry leading cost effectiveness.
  • Influence components roadmaps to help trade-off acquisition costs with complexity costs/risks.
  • Establish the sourcing strategy for the components and technologies to support SPWR Ground mount and Rooftop products roadmap.
  • Build/maintain excellent relationship with top executives of our strategic vendors: the goal is to facilitate potential escalations/3-way negotiations as well as to stay up-to-date on business opportunities/trends.
  • Lead negotiations on all business terms and conditions, and pricing with suppliers, including all potential development costs.
  • Develop business contracts with suppliers including agreement on product pricing, engineering support, delivery, quality, and support.
  • Review and coordinates multiple plans/schedules to monitor deliverables and potential slips. Proactively identifies risks and linkages. Anticipates potential problems. Ensures contingency plans are created and proper coordination occurs. Recommends alternatives and trade-offs and ensures that decisions are made by the appropriate team, organization, or manager at the partner. Ensures quick and efficient resolution of unplanned issues by driving external partner organizations.
  • Provides management with status, impact analyses, and recommendations necessary to make decisions to resolve issues and meet commitments.
  • Ensures ownership and alignment is achieved between external and internal partners to meet manufacturing goals in cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Ensures costs and other T&Cs are kept up-to-date in appropriate databases at all times.
  • Support suppliers' accountability for cost, schedule and quality, aiding in escalations as needed to ensure effective actions are promptly taken.
  • Interactions with stakeholders' Relationships with peers, subordinates, customers
  • Integrate technical terms or specific knowledge into deliverables where possible

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management or Supply Chain, and 9+ years of related experience OR Master's degree with 7 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of procurement systems and business/customers, combining with technical understanding of component manufacturing process and functionality. Experience in large MV electrical projects
  • Experience leading people and working effectively across functions and across business cultures (US, EMEA & APAC).
  • Experience in solar supplier management and materials management.
  • Effective project management, negotiation, contract management and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Electrical Engineering/Technical degree will be a real plus
  • Expertise in solar industry will be a plus
  • Experience in working with ERP/MRP systems (Oracle, SAP..) is preferred
