Summary of Role: SunPower is seeking an engineer with experience in electrical engineering of utility, industrial and commercial electric power systems. The desired candidate will have extensive experience with design, operations, and maintenance of electrical power systems with a proven track record of troubleshooting and providing engineering support to address filed issues. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in failure analysis, root cause analysis, and risk analysis for operating electric power systems and will have knowledge of electric codes, certification requirements, and permitting requirements. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience in the design, optimization, and deployment of Photovoltaic Power Plants or other AC and DC electric power systems. Experience with medium voltage distribution networks and equipment, high voltage equipment and substations, and protective relaying is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned):
  • Provide engineering support to O&M team to enable troubleshooting malfunctioning electrical equipment or investigating the cause of electrical faults in PV Power Systems
  • Develop safety and operating procedures for conducting system testing, troubleshooting, energization/re-energization
  • Develop new methods for installing, commissioning, and maintaining PV electrical systems, medium and high voltage systems, and equipment to improve reliability and reduce cost.
  • Conduct FMEA for new products and electrical systems
  • Support and lead 8Ds associated with electrical product and system design issues and failures
  • Support new product and design qualifications, develop testing and product qualification procedures, and support vendor quality audits
Minimum Requirements:
RELATED EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical engineering with either a power systems or power electronics emphasis
  • Experience using SCADA systems and protection equipment logs to investigate electrical faults in power systems and other troubleshooting techniques.
  • Systematic and creative problem solving skills. Experience with the 8D methodology or other failure analysis techniques are desirable.
  • BS in Electrical Engineering. Masters or doctorate degree is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NEC and UL standards

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative and innovative design solutions
  • Self motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams
  • Highly organized and capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Proven ability to lead change and to drive efficiency and cost reduction
