Summary of Role: We are looking for a motivated senior RD engineer to join our module development team that works on the next generation module designs and electrical integration. This person will be responsible for working with suppliers and develop cost effective solutions for module to system electrical integration. This activity involves collaborating with the other team members to understand the project goals; designing experiments or paper studies where appropriate, coordinating or executing the designed experiments; characterization the results; organizing and understanding the data; clear presentation and representation of the data highlighting gaps as well as conclusions; and finally determining the next step in development. An organized person with good inter-personal communication, self-directed and ability to multi-task a variety of projects in a high pace environment who would be willing to travel up to15% of their time would be most suited to this position. Minimum Requirements:
  • Evaluation of new components and designs for Junction Boxes, cables, connectors, diodes.
  • Develop processed and tools for Jbox attachment to the modules, deploy in manufacturing and support scaling to high volume manufacturing
  • Develop in process controls and metrology as needed as it related to Jbox functionality and process control
  • Demonstration and analysis of reliability and performance of Jbox and electrical interconnection with regard to 25 years product warranty
  • Vendor selection and management for components selection, tools and tests
  • Investigate design and reliability failures, conduct failure analysis (FA) and provide reports
  • Understanding the interactions of the new componnets with both upstream and downstream processes and materials
  • Take part in cross-functional teams for product development, corrective/preventive action, and process or infrastructure improvements
  • Work independently and with other engineers to establish functional requirements, and system cost and performance targets.
  • Develop plans, schedules, cost models and budgets for independent and small group projects
  • Designing of experiments, coordinating/executing experiments in the laboratory
  • Characterization of experimental results, analysis, understanding and presenting data
  • Communicating and negotiating with internal and external project customers
  • Excellent people skills, able to work with global teams in a diverse work environment
Preferred Requirements:
  • BS or MS in Physics, Electrical Engineering or related technical field
  • Strong background with minimum 3 years of direct experience in electrical components testing, electrical design
  • Ability and proven experience to think creatively, learn, and develop innovative solutions to interconnect electro/mechanical challenges involved with photovoltaic panels in the field
  • Experience with fatigue testing, thermal cycling of electro-mechanical components required
  • Experience with vendor management, establishment of joint development agreements, and project management a plus
  • Factory experience with materials handling, tool specification, start-up, and qualification of high volume manufacturing equipment a plus
  • Understanding of modern product and process development tools such as SPC and DOE
  • Solid understanding of electrical testing of PV modules and components desired
  • Ability to set up electrical test experiments in a laboratory environment, confortable working in an R&D Laboratory
  • Flexible, creative problem solver good at working with diverse groups
  • Excellent written and verbal skills
  • Self motivated, with ability to work both independently and with multiple teams
  • Self starter, comfortable with owning and driving a development projects
