Summary We are seeking an experienced Utility Sales Associate to help implement strategies and tactics necessary to develop solar power plant projects for investor-owned electric utilities, municipal utilities independent power producers and rural electric cooperatives in the US. The Utility Sales Associate is responsible for working with senior utility group project developers to achieve all project milestones in preparation for project construction. In addition, the Associate will support SunPower's sales efforts to provide components or full engineering, procurement and construction services to other project developers. We are looking for a hardworking team player with proven ability to achieve results in a dynamic environment. The candidate should be self-motivated and self-directed and be able to manage relationships across a large organization effectively. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned): • Analyze financial returns of projects through development of financial models and execution of sensitivity analysis around key project levers • Develop comprehensive proposals to customers, including proposal documents and pricing • Serve as interface with design, estimating, performance, engineering, construction, O&M and other SunPower departments to ensure project cost information is accurate and reflects project characteristics • Research candidate sites for project feasibility, using public sources to determine factors like parcel ownership, zoning, and current land use • Interface with project consultants to ensure project progress is timely and accurate project information is provided as needed to outside groups • Support achievement of project milestones related to permitting, transmission, siting and securing offtaker agreements for US utility group portfolio projects o Develop and review key permitting documents to ensure project impacts are reflected accurately; manage posting of financial security; interface with utility and independent system operator personnel; support execution of interconnection agreements o Manage project pricing per utility proposed terms; develop proposals to provide utility with pricing; support negotiations to finalize power purchase agreement terms; support execution of final offtaker agreements • Track project development progress in Utility group reporting tools • Create and maintain project budgets • Develop presentations appropriate for senior management that communicate project financials, supporting approval of project development investment Minimum Requirements: While this is not an entry-level role, it also does not require an advanced degree. We are looking for someone with ~5 years of work experience, a strong educational background and good understanding of the economics of the energy business: • Substantial exposure to the energy industry, either via academics or a professional role • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing time demands • Excellent oral and written presentation skills • Strong analytical skills. • Meticulous attention to detail • Excellent interpersonal skills • Fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat • Effective at creating, summarizing and presenting information logically for executive decision making • Knowledge of finance and business concepts Preferred Requirements: • Advanced degreed in technology, energy, sustainability, business, finance or other relevant area of study from a top institution • Solar industry experience • Real Estate development experience • Coursework/experience in Land Development and Policy • Coursework/experience in Energy Policy and/or Technology • Understanding of utility regulatory environment • Experience with environmental review processes |
