Summary of Role: We're looking for a manager with proven experience in managing sales and technical training programs, facilitation, particularly in residential, consumer or small business environments that are sold through indirect sales channels, (Dealers, VARS). The Partner Training Manager will lead and coach a team of professionals, including experienced technical and sales trainers, as well as training designers, courseware developers, and training support specialists. The role is responsible for all aspects of the dealer training program, including managing, developing, and conducting both instructor-led and online training; conducting need and root cause analyses; developing short- and long-term key initiatives and plans; measuring and reporting on impact, efficiency, and activity; and developing expense- and income-based budgets and hitting or beating targets.

As the face of partner training to a wide variety of audiences both internally and externally, the Partner Training Manager must be effective in communicating with salespeople, technicians, subject matter experts, and company managers and executives. The role is focused on training in North America, and requires moderate travel to manage or deliver training, work with the audience and subject matter experts, and coach team members.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Needs Identification. Identify dealer program business goals, gaps being addressed, and possible root causes, based on existing data and new investigation.
  • Program Planning. Develop detailed plans, including resource and budget requirements, service standards and best practices, framework of dealer training programs and deliverables, timelines, measurement and evaluation, communication, and reporting.
  • Strategic Planning. Contribute to goals, strategies, and tactics that improve the SunPower's long-range business performance, including customer and dealer satisfaction.
  • Team Management. Directly manage and coach a team of technical and sales trainers, as well as a support services manager and team of instructional designers, curriculum developer, LMS admin, and training support specialists. Work with each direct report to identify Key Initiatives for each quarter, balance workloads, and link KIs to long term objectives.
  • Collaboration and Communication. Collaborate with managers and subject matter experts from within SunPower, its dealers, and the solar community at large, to support training and performance improvement goals. Serve as liaison for dealer performance improvement, communicating to internal resources and following through to dealer contacts through resolution.
  • Curriculum Management. Manage curriculum and catalog of online learning, identify best internal and external sources, and work with learning management system managers and administrators to establish trackable, timely, seamless access for both SunPower users and Dealer users.
  • Course Development. Create and manage creation of highly effective, engaging online and face to face programs, including detailed learning objectives, content development, management of subject matter experts, facilitation of lively interaction, and customization to meet group and individual goals.
  • Tool Development. Create and manage the creation of custom job aids, templates, newsletters, podcasts, webinars, and other resources for management, sales, and technical team members at dealers and SunPower.
  • Impact Measurement. Follow-up on the outcomes of programs against identified learning and performance improvement needs, to assure the most beneficial business impact for SunPower, dealers, and customers. Compile measurement of program success and activity, and develop effective reporting practices for SunPower managers and executives.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, training, communication (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of experience in training, performance improvement, consulting, or similar program development and implementation.
  • 3+ years of face-to-face training or facilitation experience.
  • 3+ years of experience managing teams
  • 5+ years of experience developing training programs (both technical and sales) for indirect sales channels
  • Demonstrated superior training, facilitation, and communication skills, including writing, listening, speaking, and delivering engaging presentations and learning.
  • Demonstrated high level of project management skills, including time, resource, and budget development, execution, and reporting.
  • Competence with Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer).
  • Demonstrated strong customer-focused communications and actions.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Advanced degree (Master's or Doctorate) in business, training, communication (or equivalent).
  • 2+ years of experience with one of the following: web site, online training, or virtual training development and delivery, wikis, blogs, social networking.
  • 3+ years combined experience developing and delivering one or more of the following training topics: sales, management, leadership, financial management, HR management, business development.
  • 1+ years experience with learning management systems.
  • 1+ years experience in the solar photovoltaic industry with a manufacturer or dealer, or in sales, marketing, design, installation, or support.
  • 1+ years experience managing or working in a small or retail business with face-to-face consumer contact.
  • Degree or certificates related to adult education, facilitation, instructional design, online content development, business communications, or related areas.
