Summary of Role: The module research and development team is responsible for conceiving, developing, and transferring new advanced module technology platforms and designs into manufacturing. This group is based in San Jose, California and consists of highly skilled scientists and engineers. We are looking for a motivated scientist/engineer to join our module development team that works on the next generation technology platforms. This person will assist the group to understand the fundamental materials requirements for existing processes, before researching and developing new improved materials and processes from concept to production implementation. This activity involves collaborating with the other team members to understand the project goals; designing truth experiments or paper studies where appropriate, coordinating or executing the designed experiments; characterization the results; organizing and understanding the data; clear presentation and representation of the data highlighting gaps as well as conclusions; and finally determining the next step in development. An organized person with good inter-personal communication, self-directed and ability to multi-task a variety of projects in a high pace environment who would be willing to travel 10% of their time would be most suited to this position. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned): Develop and support production of the next generation module material and design for increased performance and reliability of SunPower PV modules Design, coordinate and execute experiments in the laboratory Develop and implement lab test methods to study the effect of environmental stress on cell fracture as a function of module materials and processes Develop lab tests protocols, correlate with field performance and determine acceleration factors as it related to product warranty Understand the relationship between materials structure, process, properties, composition, performance and reliability Work with materials suppliers to develop products that meet performance specifications *LI-JT Minimum Requirements: The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a master's degree program or equivalent degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or a similar field. Preferred Requirements: Personal Qualities Strong analytical skills; proven record of timely problem solving Able to quickly grasp complex problems, identify root causes, determine the best path forward, and execute solutions Proven track record of innovation and out of box innovative thinking Excellent communication skills: capacity to explain complex problems in a clear and understandable manner Able to work effectively in a global environment and matrix management organization Written and spoken fluency in English Preferred requirements Capacity to develop innovative ideas Ability to plan, multi-task and set priorities based on technical and business input Able to work effectively in a high pace, world class competitive global R&D environment. Self driven with a team work attitude and capacities The ability to multitask a variety of responsibilities and take ownership of high impact Experience 1-3 years of professional experience in a relevant industry (e.g. PV, automotive, electronic or MEMS) Some experience in PV module R&D desired Experience with developing new products, develop new cost effective solution Hands-on experience with optical, electrical and mechanical characterization Experience with design, build and automate optical test equipment (eg. Raman) Expert on standard lab tools: Labview, optical measurement (FTIR, UV/VIS spectrometer), Instron, DSC, DMA - OTHER PERTINENT INFORMATION (optional) - San Jose, CA - 10% of travel required - Candidate must be legally entitled to work and reside in USA. *LI-JT |
